TapDefense – The Best Free Game for iPhone

by Simon Ng on December 7, 2008

By the time I wrote this post, TapDefense should climb to the top of the Top-25 free download in App Store. TapDefense from TapJoy is a tower defense strategy game that your goal is to develop tower to stop enemies from crossing the map and entering the Gate of Heaven.

Few days ago, Apple announced the top applications of 2008 including top games. To me, TapDefense is definitely the top free game of 2008. It’s incredibly addictive and fun that you can take hours on it.

TapDefense is totally free and supported by Ads. It’s incredible that such great game does not cost you a single dollar. TapDefence comes with three difficulty levels (Easy, Medium and Hard), in which the path is shorten as the difficulty level goes up. No matter you’re playing at any levels of difficulties, you’ll have to master 43 levels of enemies to complete the game.

That said, the goal of TapDefense build tower to defense enemies from crossing the map. Each tower costs you a certain amount of money to buy or upgrade. At the beginning of the game, you are given a fairly little amount of money for building towers but you’ll earn money by killing enemies and from interest along each level. The game offers three types of tower when you begin. As you earn what so-called “halo”, you can build up to a total of six types of tower and a special one called EarthQuake.

TapDefense has drawn much attention as it breaks into the top-25 list of App Store. Many gamers compare it with FieldRunners, which is another Tower Defense strategy game on iPhone. Among the reviews, TapDefense is fall short of beautiful graphics. I agree it’s less polish than FieldRunners and comes along with a few bugs (e.g. Interest rate is not show correctly). However, the graphics of TapDefense is pretty good enough to let you enjoy the fun of tower defense. And, while FieldRunners costs USD$4.99, the best part of TapDefense is FREE.

TapDefense is freely available for download in App Store. You can download it via this direct link.

One final tips… I have completed all three difficulty levels. As I read through TapDefense review or other game forums, many players can’t get through thirty-one or thirty two levels. You have to develop a good strategy to pass it. And one strategy which is definitely useful is Save Money and use the towers wisely!

Enjoy the game and remember to leave me comment to share your experience on TapDefense.

great game. Try to stay with arrow tower, buy about 2 on every level, save your gold to earn interest, and use storm tower when you have money.

Ada, a few tips I used to get pass 30 levels:

- In early stages, spend money to build tower just enough to kill all enemies. You do not need to upgrade every tower. Remember you have to save more money so as to earn more interest
- Focus on using arrow, magic, bomb and ice towers. Forget about earth quake or water. Ice tower is especially great that it can slow down enemies as you upgrade to high level.
- Only use Storm tower after 30th level. As storm tower takes away a certain percentage of life points, it’d be more effective for enemies with higher life point (>1000).

Hope this tips works for you. Enjoy the game.

Stay with arrow towers till around 20th level then 5 cannons in the lower left corner then around 25th or 27th go for ice towers every 7-8 grids. Invest in interest all the time until ice. I had 30,000gold finishing the game so I guess it works. You feel like unlimited funds when upgrading. Around 33-38 go for storm towers at the beginning of the path. you can make arounf 2-10 of them :) and it’s done :) lol I finished the game at 39th level without changing anything till the end of the game :)

I definitely agree that the best strategy is to save money, especially early on in the game. Using halo’s to upgrade the interest rate rather than researching new towers is key

Mithun, you need to first register an account in iTunes. You do not need to pay for registration but you need to provide your credit card number.

After registration, you should be able to download TapDefense.
