Do you experience any issues with iPhone Firmware 2.2?

I have upgraded to iPhone 2.2 and jailbreak it for more than a week. iPhone 2.2 is really great update. I love the new features (Street view, Podcast download, etc) and find Safari much stable than earlier firmware version. iPhoneAtlas, however, reported that quite a number of iPhone users are experiencing issues with the upgrade:

Users, in droves, continue to report a bevy of issues after the update to iPhone OS 2.2. Among the most serious and widespread problems: disappearing applications (both Apple?s and third-party), loss of WiFi connectivity, loss of 3G or EDGE signal strength and an inability to sync with iTunes.

The issues, reported by iPhoneAtlas’ readers, are mostly related to Wifi, iTunes sync problem and missing applications after installing firmware 2.2. Quoted from iPhoneAtlas, here are some of the issues:

- ?When I upgraded, all my apps non-original apps disappears, except for google! When I tried to re-download and then resync them onto my iphone, only some of them would appear. After talking to support, we tried starting my computer (she said this was happening to some people) and then syncing. This added a couple more, but about 10 were still sitting in my itunes and refusing to sync.?
- ?After the os 2.2 update. Safari suddenly disappeared. Syncing etc didn?t work or resolve the issue. I had to do a restore to get things back to normal.?
- ?I also have had a problem with a missing application. My camera application has disappeared and I tried restoring it, and it appeared for about five minutes, let me take one picture, then was suddenly gone again.?

For me, I’m really lucky I do not experience any major issues for every firmware upgrade and even jailbreak. So, do you experience similar issue with iPhone Firmware 2.2, regardless it’s jailbreak or not? Feel free to leave me comment about your experience with iPhone 2.2.

Most of the time I get No service. Anyone have this happen to them?? Anyone have any ideas what to do to fix it? I even got a new turbo SIM and it still does the same thing!! IDEAS PLEASE!!!!

I bought a factory unlocked iPhone 3G 16gb with original 2.0.2 firmware. I upgraded to 2.1 and jailbreak, no problem and continued to be unlocked. However, when I upgraded to 2.2, although still unlocked after jailbreak, the “No Service” appeared. Sometimes I get a very weak service signal and then it disappear after a few seconds. I can not make calls; only emergency. So, I believe there is something wrong with 2.2 because 2.1 worked perfectly fine and my SIM works perfect with my Nokia. Now I can not downgrade my baseband to 2.1. So those who plan to upgrade to 2.2, beware. Even if you have factory unlocked iPhone, do not upgrade to 2.2 yet. There are issues with 2.2 that are also being reported by many users including those have contract and did not jailbreak their phones.

Dan, which software are you using for jailbreak? QuickPwn or PwangeTool on Mac?

  • Dan

I used QuickPwn 2.2-1 for Windows XP Pro downloaded torrent from iPhone Dev site. My iPhone shows very weak signal for 1 second and then goes into “NO SERVICE” forever unless I re-start, re-set or airplane mode off/on, re-boot and the cycle repeats. I bought this 3G in Hong Kong factory unlocked last September 2008.

So far, no problems with the 2.2 upgrade. Connectivity appears good and all the applications are behaving.

i realized that i couldn’t hold call + answer during calls. all research showed that disabling lock status would fix it, but i never had lock status enabled. lock status only appears in winterboard after installing statusnotifier. i always had statusnotifier on but had the “notifier widget” turned on too instead of the “lock status” being turned on in winterboard. the “notifier widget” changes how you see missed calls and texts on your lock screen. i had to uninstall statusnotifier to get the ability to switch during a call.

    Hi,
Thanks for all the great tools and info you always provide us with. I have the first generation 4 GB iPhone and had it unlocked from day one. Recently I upgraded it to 2.2 by using Pwnage tool for the first time. Everything worked great, just followed the steps. Everything works great, I can access and use all the apps, original and downloaded. The issue that is coming up is that the phone either freezes or shuts down because the screen remains black and it does not want to come up when trying to use the phone. I always then have to restart it by holding the home and the top button. Do you have any ideas what it could be? As I said, all apps work great and the phone is fast and does not seem to show any other issues.
Thank you for all your help and info.

    Hi there,

Cydia doesn’t work after upgrading from 1.1.4 to 2.2…

    any fix?

  • http://deleted Jones Ong

Cydia doesn’t work after upgrading from 1.1.4 to 2.2
    ______

    SOLVED!

when using Pwnage, do not download any Cydia installer or apps. Do so only at the next step where Cydia and Installer are checked automatically!

    Tada! :D

*pwned multiple times by saying NO to whether I have ‘pwned my phone before’… ignore all error messages… :) it works for me somehow…

    hi guys
ok, i just bought a new iphone 3g along with a turbo sim. I put my sim card with teh turbo sim and everything seemed to work fine up until i updated it to 2,2. Ofcourse, i was stupid and pressed restore thinking that it would fix the problem. But now the phone wont do anything except emergency calls, and on itunes it says “the sim card inserted in this iphone does not appear to be supported” and i cant open anything. PLEASE does anyone have a solution?? im reading tons of forums but no one talks about a solution… everyone only says dont update, and dont restore.. well i did!! so what now??

    Hi,

I recently bought a 3G iPhone and used QuickPwn v2.2 for Windows to jailbreak. I got success in jailbreaking it, but now I am stuck as it gives me “NO Service” Status and am unable to get any carrier service. Any patches or any fix to this problem. Please help.

i used pwnage to jailbreak my 3G after updating it to 2.2 and everything went well. my friend who has a first generation asked me to do the same for his. i figured his would need the update so i updated it to 2.2 it said that it needed to be reactivated. so we activated it through pwnage. the phone is now on and working but the calls arent going through and it says he has no service. safari works, and so does the gps. he called AT&T and they said it wasnt his plan that it was his phone but gave him no further information. what could cause this or how can i fix it?

I’ve upgraded to 2.2 couple days ago and I ran into serious problem…First my Wifi is no longer working (my wifi activation feature is now Grey out…meaning i cannot turn on the wifi in this case) and 2nd problem i encountered is the battery life is now only lasted for not more than 6 hours. This is weird because my iPhone was in perfect condition because I decided to upgrade its to 2.2. It seem to me that it’s time to buy a new one because there is no U-turn, it can’t be downgraded to the previous 1.1.4 version to see if the wifi and battery is working the way it should. What a bad step forward….bong

Hello I have a slight problem with unlocking an iphone 2g 16gb on software version 2.2.1. I updated to 2.2.1 with itunes and followed all instructions with quickpwn 2.5. The problem I have is: Iphone shows T-Mobile sim, which is correct, but I cannot make or receive phone calls or send and receive sms. It says call forwarding active…and a voice mail. When I call the voice mail service it doesn’t work. When I add the simcard into another phone, there is no voice mail. When I go into the phone settings it says call forwarding active – forwarding to “error” and I cannot move the slider. I can’t do anything within the phone settings. Everything is greyed out. I added an orange sim into the iphone to see if it recognises it, but it shows “no service”…any other sim card doesn’t work either. I tried unlocking with a simcard in the phone and also no simcard in the phone. Both times it didn’t work. I unlocked many iphones and this is the first one that doesn’t work. This phone has been previously activated with O2 on a contract, but the owner then gave me the phone as a present. I really don’t know what else to do. Please let me know…and many thanks.
I also downgraded it to software version 2.2, and tried to unlock it, but no luck.
    Cheers Stef
