Complete Guide: Jailbreak & Unlock iPhone 2.2 (2G) using QuickPwn (For Windows) [Updated for firmware 2.2.1]

November 27, 2008 — by Simon Ng670

Thanks for waiting. Finally, I managed to update the iPhone 2.2 jailbreak guide for Windows user. This guide is specifically for iPhone 2G (also known as 1st generation iPhone).

Update: Now, you can refer to the latest jailbreak guide to upgrade to iPhone 3.0.

Previously, I covered the whole process to jailbreak iPhone 2.2 using Pwnage Tool (for Mac). Here comes to the complete guide for Windows users. This guide is designed for:

  • Those who own iPhone 2G and plan for jailbreak & unlock (If you do not know what Jailbreak & Unlock are, check out my post of “Why Jailbreak?“)
  • Those who already have jailbreak iPhone and would like to upgrade to firmware 2.2 or 2.2.1. (To learn more about new features offered in firmware 2.2, you can refer to this post)

To jailbreak firmware 2.2 on Windows, we’ll use QuickPwn 2.2 or 2.2.5-2 to perform jailbreak and unlock for your iPhone. Developed by iPhone Dev Team, QuickPwn is the easiest tool to jailbreak & unlock iPhone. The jailbreak process is so straightforward that any iPhone owner can manage the jailbreak.

Before going forward to the jailbreak procedures, let’s me highlight again. This guide is for iPhone 2G. I’m updating the jailbreak guide for iPhone 3G. Please stay tuned.

Okay, let’s get start.

Preparation for Jailbreak & Unlock

1. First, make sure you have upgraded to iTunes version 8.0.2 and backup your iPhone data by synchronizing it with iTunes.

Tip: You can download older version of iTunes here if Apple already releases a newer version of iTunes at the time you’re reading this post.

2. Download QuickPwn 2.2, Bootloader 3.9 & 4.6 and iPhone firmware 2.2. Save them all in the same folder. And unzip QuickPwn22.zip. So make sure you have all the files in place before continue.

If you plan to upgrade to firmware 2.2.1, please download QuickPwn 2.2.5-2 and firmware 2.2.1 instead. Firmware 2.2.1 is only a bug fix version. It’s up to you to consider the upgrade.

Installing iPhone Firmware 2.2 via iTunes

3. Next, connect your iPhone to your computer via USB cable and launch iTunes. Select your iPhone in iTunes.

4. Okay, now hold the SHIFT key and click the “Restore” button. iTunes will launch a file dialog for you to select the firmware file. Locate the “iPhone1,1_2.2_5G77_Restore.ipsw” you have downloaded in previous step and click “Open”.

For firmware 2.2.1, please use “iPhone1,1_2.2.1_5H11_Restore.ipsw” instead.

5. iTunes will then restore your iPhone with firmware 2.2. Keep your iPhone connected, don’t touch it and wait until the process completes.

Jailbreak & Unlock with QuickPwn

6. Now, your iPhone should completely restore to firmware 2.2. But it’s locked right now.

7. Launch QuickPwn 2.2 to start jailbreak & unlock.

If you’re upgrading to firmware 2.2.1, please use QuickPwn 2.2.5-2.

8. Ensure you have the iPhone connected and then click blue button to continue.

9. Next, you are required to provide the firmware 2.2 IPSW file. Click “Browse” button to locate it. You should see a big tick if your firmware file is correct. Then click the blue arrow to continue.

For Firmware 2.2.1 jailbreak, please locate your firmware 2.2.1 IPSW file (iPhone1,1_2.2.1_5H11_Restore.ipsw)

10. You can then configure the settings for QuickPwn. Normally, you can check all checkboxes (i.e. Add Cydia, add installer, Replace boot logo & unlock iPhone). But if you do not keep the Apple logo, left “Replace boot logo” unchecked. Click blue arrow button to continue.

11. Next, locate the bootloader 3.9 and 4.6 files that you have downloaded by clicking “Browse” button. Once complete, QuickPwn will verify the files and show a big tick if they are correct. Then click blue arrow button to continue.

12. Your iPhone should still be connected with USB cable. QuickPwn requests you to confirm it once again as the Jailbreak process will begin. If you’re ready, click blue arrow button to continue.

13. Now, QuickPwn starts to jailbreak and unlock your iPhone. It automatically puts the iPhone into recovery mode. After that, you’ll be asked to hold Home button for 5 seconds. Then hold Home and Power buttons together for 10 seconds. Next, release Power button and continue to hold Home button until your iPhone is in DFU mode (QuickPwn will prompt you when you’re in DFU mode, just follow what QuickPwn says).

14. While jailbreaking, your iPhone will show downloading jailbreak data, flashing NOR, etc. And, just don’t touch your iPhone and keep waiting.

15. Once completed, QuickPwn will let you know the jailbreak process is successful. Your iPhone will be restarted and automatically launch BootNeuter to perform unlock. This process will take 3-5 minutes to complete. Be patient. When complete, your iPhone will be rebooted.

16. Congratulation, you now complete the jailbreak process with iPhone firmware 2.2. Lastly, sync back your backup data with iTunes.

Hope you’ll have a smooth jailbreak process. As always, leave me message and share your jailbreak experience.

Hi I just did this whole process like you explained except for the unlocking part. I upgraded mistakenly to 2.2 but i was still able to mak,e calls using Tmobile. The only problem I’m having is when it’s asking me to hold the buttons down. Right when it’s about to jailbreak, quickpwn tells me the connection failed cause i either didn’t follow instructions or have a failed usb (which i don’t). I did the process like 10 times, downloaded quickpwn from different sources and still nothing. My phone even goes to the jailbreaking data screen so i don’t know. Have any suggestions?

  • Hassan

Did anyone try this while using T-mobile..is it working??

  • penn

  • Hassan

  • Sherwin

    Hi Simon,

Following your process, will I lose all my previous apps installed from appstore and Cydia?

  • Hassan

if u sync ur phone before upgrading with itunes u wont loose ur appstore apps..u can backup ur cydia apps using aptbackup.. the details are also here on blog somewhere… do u have tmobile??

  • WTF

My phone wont turn on!!! Its stuck on the apple logo with the little time circle going round and round!!!! WTF

  • Sherwin

    Hi Hassan,

Nope. I’m on Globe. I live in the Philippines. Thank you so much for your advise.

  • WTF

I redid it and it worked!!!!!!!!!!! Cidia sucks though. Thats what causes it to freeze.

  • mjd

I did this all the way through and everything looked great until the boot neuter finished, then on the reboot my iphone is stuck on the apple screen! What can I do? iTunes does not recognize the phone at all…I am stuck.

  • Bailie

Worked perfectly for me. had no problems what so ever. Thanks!

  • kison

    I have a problem…. HELP !!!!!!!!
I cannot go to DFU mode. Now I cannot use mobile. Please help.

  • kison

When I follow the above step 13, I have problem.
“I go to the wrong mode”……then I cannot contine the next step.
What can I do ?? Please help.

  • kison

I have tried nearly 10 times and it finally works. Thanks God.

  • Hassan

good work..any one of u using tmobile??

  • Jamie

Am I right in saying I would lose all my “Contacts” that are saved onto my iPhone by upgrading my jailbroken firmware to 2.2?

  • Jamie

I have just looked into it. If you have jailbroken already, and are upgrading. Download and install “iSIM” from Installer. You can copy all your phone contacts over to your Sim card.

This way you won’t lose all your contacts when updating to the latest jailbroken firmware. Hope this helps anyone worried about losing their phone contacts.

  • Jamie

No problem at all whilst using this jailbreak method. Was real smooth. Thanks again. xD

  • Jamie

Only problem is, I seem to have lost 0.20gb disk space. Is that normal? It’s not a problem though really.

  • Jamie, you can sync your contact via iTunes before upgrade. Later after jailbreak, resync it with iTunes to restore all your contacts.

  • Jamie

Thanks mate. I have done. I used Windows Address Book. Unfortunately it’s imported thousands of contacts from Outlook Express too. Ha. Not to worry, I think I have them all on my SIM Card. =]

Thanks though. Jailbreak went well. How come installer seems to have less things than in 1.1.4 version?

  • ammy

    is this site a scam??
they claim to be able to unlock 3g with firmware 2.2

  • Ricci

    Thanks a lot!!!
I just had one problem, I couldn’t run QuickPwn 2.2 because my computer’s .Net Framework needed to be updated. So I just updated my Framework and everything went smooth. If someone else had the same problem, just go to the link below.

All my contacts, music, photos, etc. are restored, no loses there.

Unfortunately some of my previous applications are gone, not even with the sync was I able to restore them.

    Thanks again!

I´ve read the guide and seams to be very easy to do, but the first time that I try to jailbreak my Iphone I was not able to enter the DFU mode, so I´m a little afraid to upgrade from firmware 1.1.4 to 2.2. I´ve read that Kison had this problem, could you tell me how you solved it?

Thaks a lot for your support.

  • Alcion

Another question, if I want to keep the apple logos on my iphone, do I have to check the option “Replace boot logos”???? Thanks again.

Directions are clear and concise so just have patience and read carefully. I appreciate the unluock much and I love my “new” iphone all over again! 🙂

  • Tone

I mean all the way at the top…

  • Alcion, do not check the “Replace boot logo” option if you want to keep the Apple logo.

  • Sam

    Hi Simon,

I’ve read this thread and also, the thread using 2.1
I have an unlocked and jailbroken iphone on 1.1.4 (4A102) with a bb of 04.02.13_G I used ziphone 2.3 and 2.5 to get the iphone unlocked and jailbroken.
    Should I use 2.1 or 2.2?
Also, before I begin, do I need to restore the iphone first (DMF – back to the original out of the box) before attempting to do the things you listed?

Thanks for the info. Greatly appreciated.

  • This was a great tutorial! I had to update from 1.1.1 to 1.1.4 using ZiPhone, which was easy with some basic youtube videos. But then once i was standing on 1.1.4 i was able to use this tutorial above to get it upgraded to 2.2! Pretty easy with QuickPwn! Thanks. unfortanly i lost all my contacts, make sure you back them up in a txt file atleast just so you can manualy type them if itunes find your restore currpt. Good lick!

  • Sam, I suggest you to upgrade to firmware 2.2 directly, which offers more features. You can follow this guide from step 1 and it already includes everything you need to upgrade from firmware 1.1.4 to 2.2.

  • Sam

Thanks for the quick reply Simon. I will read this over a few more times before attempting. Will post results. Tnx again for the tutorial.

  • Alcion

Thanks for all your help, I´m downloading firmware 2.2 at this moment, so tomorrow you´ll have the follow up, I´m sure I´ll give you good news.

    Thanks Simon for you tutotial.

  • mrala

I still can’t get the phone to work on Suncom. It said the unlock was successful and everything went through, is there something I’m missing? Is there a way to select another carrier?

  • Matt

I have a non-jailbroken iPhone 2g with the 2.2 software already installed from iTunes. If I want to simply jailbreak my phone, are these the correct steps to take?

  • Alcion

I follow the tutorial and jailbreak and unlock my 2G iphone with the 2.2 firmware without problems in about 15 minutes, thanks for this excellent work Simon.

  • Chris

I was able to jailbreak and unlock my previously unlocked IPhone without any problems. I am now operating my Iphone on T-Mobile in the United States with T-Zones hack as my data plan. I have recorded video with cycorder and have installed a new theme with Winterboard. Thanks for the incredibly easy to follow instructions. For those of you who got here through a google search like I did, you have reached the right place. Follow the instructions above and you will be able to unlock without a problem.

  • varun

heyy simon thanx alot i am using windows vista and i just upgraded my iphone to 2.2 and its working great.

  • Just got an iphone which was already unlocked and jail broke but on an older firmware. Downloaded new firmware via Itunes, not realising it would lock it up again. • skerning

After I upgraded to 2.2, my iPhone has no Carrier in the Settings. There is also No Service showing at the top left corner. Pls help.

  • Hey – after hours of trying other software, this one worked first time and within 20 minutes! I can now use my Orange Contract SIM in my old Company phone! I’m so happy – thanks very very much!

  • irina

Thanks a lot… i can believe i did it.. and it took only about 20 min 🙂

  • skerning

There are quite a number of ppl who upgraded their iPhone from 1.1.4 to 2.2 and run into “No Service” problem. I have this problem and it is still not resolved, despite trying twice to repeat the steps. There is also no “Carrier network” in the Phone Settings, hence I believe my iPhone is successfully jailbroken but not unlocked. I have no solutions and I searched everything but no answers. Can anyone help here?

During one of the step where it asks to tick “unlock phone”…I did check on the box. In fact I checked all the boxes except replacing the logo.

Can anyone share the solution of how to resolve this “no service” problem.

I can’t even restore back to 1.1.4 and basically…I am stuck here.

  • Mbarak Shebe

Thanks buddy, I enjoy unlocking my iPhone… It worked with iTunes, lol, I took 15min and just worked at first attempt.

  • I used quickpwn 2.2 and t-mobile edge works fine. if it doesn’t, go into cydia and apply the t-mobile hack. don’t try installing through itunes. not even a pwned backup will install anymore.

  • vel

Man thxs alot… i use etisalat UAE n it worked just fine…fixed all problems i had with version 1.1.4……….Thxs alot… ppl use it it actually works it not 1 of those scam sites

  • Hello,

I got my iPhone 2G unlocked at a random phone store and the guy there said that if i update software my phone wont work (i use AT&T Go Phone Plan, which works awesome on the iPhone, email me to find how i did it). He used that same software that’s online, the one that’s in this tutorial. Anyway, when I check Cydia it says YES in green next to 2.2, does that mean I can undate and be good to go? I mean will my phone still work? I’m addicted to my iPhone and would go crazy if it doesnt work. I want 2.2 bc some apps i try to get from the AppStore wont work on 2.1.

    Some advice?

  • Murali

Awesome blog dude. Upgraded firmware from 2.1 to 2.2. Works awesome

  • Edward

Thanks to Simon and the Dev Team ! I managed to upgrade my firmware from 1.3 to 2.2 with no problems on my 2g iphone which i used ziphone on before. Great blog ! Cheers !

  • Erin

Everything seemed to work smoothly. However, after the whole process was done, I inserted my sim card and my iPhone displayed this message:”Different sim card detected, please connect to iTunes.” I connected, and iTunes told me that they did not support my t-mobile carrier. Nothing seemed to go wrong, though! What has happened?

    • Joerg

I am having the same problem with the t-mobile sim card. Has this been solved?

  • Edgar

yes!!!,I did it successfully. Great job by iPhone Dev Team.

  • Edgar

    ,,,,and thanks to you Simon

  • Eric

Thanks guys… it worked like a charm to upgrade to the latest version. Many kind thanks to the iPhone Dev Team!

  • Eric

Thank you so very much Simon !!

  • Kamal

    Hi Simon

Your blog is excellent. Just what a novice needs to know for basic unlocking and jailbreaking. I already used your guide once for 2.1 and just upgraded to 2.2. Thanks a lot and keep up the good work!

  • Ronny

    Hi there,

Followed your guide and all worked very well. Started to use cydia and the installer and generally working out how it all works. Afetr a day I could no longer access my phonebook or make any calls. I managed to restore my iphone and go through the jailbreak process again but I wanted to know if there was any reason for this and maybe a quick way to fix the problem without having to restore the whole phone?

  • crossbin52

THANK YOU SO SO MUCH FOR THIS!! I ‘ve been trying to restore my phone for the longest time and nothing worked!!! Its finally unlocked and jailbroken!! Thanks!!

  • vic

hey i just have a question.i didnt everythin tht yu said up der n im still gettin the same msg. the msg say “different sim detected” please connent to itunes. y does is keep saying that…

  • Love your weblog. I have bookmarked it!

  • @Ronny, that’s pretty strange. Normally you only need to jailbreak once and your iPhone should be OK.

@vic, can you access Cydia? If yes, you can download bootneuter from it and launch it to unlock your iPhone again.

  • JT

I followed your instructions exactly and it worked beautifully! Thank you so much for the instructions and all the other great stuff on your website!

  • Zaz

    Absolutely Fantastic 🙂
it took me no less than 9 minutes to finish the whole thing, including restoring my old contacts, songs and apps.
This is by far the best Jailbreaking and unlocking tutorial I’ve seen on the net!
Thank you so much.. and if you could include a Paypal donation button, I’d love to donate. You deserve it!

Have a great day, and happy holidays.

  • Carl

Ok, Ive now Jailbroken my i-phone can someone tell what to do next as I am new to all this, sorry, lol.

  • Stuart

    Hi Simon,
I used your jailbreak guide to upgrade to 2.1 a few months back and my phone works great! Now I want to upgrade to the new 2.2.
Do you know if/how I can keep my current Apps during the process… is this achieved through the iphone backup in itunes?
    Thanks for your hard work!

  • Stuart, you can just sync the iPhone application back to your computer via iTunes. After upgrade, sync it back to restore them.

  • Zeze

GREAT!!!! it took me less than 9 minutes. THNXS a lot

  • Kimonodoll

You have got the instructions right to the tee! I don’t know much about computers and the iphone technology itself, but I followed your instructions step by step and now it’s unlocked. Many thanks! The only MINOR difficult part was step 13…(had to do it 3 times). Thanks again!

  • Umair Nadeem

    Please help.

  • Demis Benjamin

Hello, I have an issue here.
I followed a guide earlier that upgrades Iphone 2G from 1.1.4 to 2.0, but I didn’t work out cause I was apparently using a too update Itunes (8.0)(ERROR 1600). So I got now a LOCKED Iphone. Which only shows a cable pointing towards Itunes on the screen. I tried to follow your guide but I get stuck on Part 3. Cause I can’t click on “Restore” button. It sais “The SIM card inserted in this Iphone does not appear to be supported.” but I’m using the same SIM as before. I even tried taking out the SIM but still wont work. I really regret trying to upgrade to 2.0 from the start. I wouldn’t had this problem 🙁
If it’s any use, my SIM is from Sweden.
Please Simon, any chance you could help me out here ?

  • Demis Benjamin

Problem solved. Since my Iphone was already locked, I went into DFU mode before step 3 and it worked out for me. I could click on Restore button now. Thanks anyway 🙂

  • miladjuckel

will i loose my contacts, with this procedure? if so whats the best way to back them up?

  • SuperAppreciated

Just updated to 2.2 from 2.1, worked perfectly! Thanks again Simon!

  • Demis Benjamin

    Thanks Simon for the guide!

  • miladjuckel

    anyways SIMON you’re the shit!!!!!!!!!!!
    thanks a lot dude

  • triplex

  • triplex

  • EMAN

I’m just wondering, can i put a different sim card AFTER I unlocked it? I’m going out of the country and just wondering if I can use my iphone using different sim card?
    Thanks for your help!!

  • vinay

Hello, Can i follow the same instructions to upgrade from 1.1.3 to 2.2 (2G) ? Pls. advice.

  • @EMAN, no problem. After unlock, you can use different SIM cards.

@vinay, you can use the same procedures to upgrade to 2.2. Good luck!

  • Richie Rich

I just wanted to say thanks because I thought that my iphone was just done for!!! these step were so easy that anyone can do it!!

  • mark.

wow… thank you soooooo much. ive had soo much trouble with this until i found ur website…. thank you

  • vinay

Thanks Simon and Iphone Dev team.. It all worked like a gem..

  • eggz

Does QuickPwn works for Mac OSX Tiger 10.4.11?
Thanks for the hard work dude!!

  • G33K

Is it possible that someone uploads his working Custom firmwork and that I just shift+restore it in itunes? Would that work?

  • G33K

HAHAHA 😀 You guys rock!!! 😀 It works. If you ever come to Slovenia i’ll buy you as many beers as you want 😀 Tnx guys.

  • eggz,

QuickPwn is also available for Mac. Alternatively, for Mac platform, I suggest you to use PwnageTool for jailbreak. And you can check out this post for jailbreak.

  • ktquah

Too bad, the restore process took me more than half hours and I guess there is something wrong somewhere. I do not how to fix it, the jailbreak and unlock seems to be correct, but why the Restore process take so long time?
Is the jailbreak and unlock using Quickpwn must have the itune open all the time? I accidentally closed it during the jailbreak processes. Would it affect the device jailbreak process?

    Hello Simon,
After following your steps, I was able to successfully upgrade my phone – BUT the only issue is that it does not ask me for the passcode after I slide its springboard. I have tried turning “passcode lock” to “on” – but it is not letting me do it and it stays to “off”.

    Can you help?

  • Husam

The jail breaking did work smoothly. Now, the problem is that I have credit on my fone to make calls, but I can’t??? I tried my SIM on another fone and it worked , WAT CAN I DO?

  • @parwez, you can set the EDGE setting by tapping Settings ->General -> Cellular Data Network. Consult your carrier for APN, username and password.

@Ankit, great to see you successfully upgrade the iPhone!

@Husam, did you check the Unlock iPhone checkbox in step 10?

  • G33K

Hi. Before firmware i had installed 2.1 and i was able to download apps for free with programs appshare and installous. Now with 2.2 the icons of installed programs from installous are not shown. Why?

  • G33K, you can use Cydia to download free iPhone application. Did you see that icon?

  • G33K

Yes I have Cydia icon. But in Cydia there is less applications available. I installed BossPrefs and checked the hidden icons. There were all applications that I installed with installous but even if I set them on unhide the icons don’t appear.

  • Ankit

Dude m facing same problem as Mr Parwez is … when i reach –>network there are only two options VPN and Wi-Fi … wat to do?
One more thing i have a dial up to start my broadband service through wifi, is there any facility in iPhone to dial up??

  • G33K

Will it work if I do the same thing with firmware 2.1?

  • Allex

  • divya

I have aproblem with quick pwn 2.2. though everything is loaded properly, i am not able to see the logo(pineapple) on the screen.. please help me out. Thanks in advance

  • jebs81

I live in Australia and i had 1.1.4 ive now upgraded all has work well but now i can not make any phone calls. please help

  • @Mrphisto zap, you can follow this guide to jailbreak and unlock the iPhone. Hope this can solve your issue.

@divya, if you follow this guide, you’ll not see the pineapple logo after jailbreak. I prefer to keep the Apple logo. But if you want to have pineapple logo, you can check “Replace boot logos” in step 10.

@jebs81, did you install any application from Installer? And can you make phone call from Contacts? I have heard about the issue. Most of them are related to “Kate”, an application from Installer. You may solve it after uninstall it.

  • jebs81

Thanks for your help Simon i turned my phone on this morning and the phone was letting me chose vodafone which it was not doing last night so i can make phoen call. The only thing now which i will deal with is when there is no signal it keeps prompting me to change back to Auto network, but like i said i will deal with that. Thanks again for your help.

  • parwez

I made some research and found the solution to the problem the we had.Go through this link….

  • Pierre, did you try to restart the computer and run the whole procedures again? Sometimes, a second trial may resolve the issue, especially for Windows platform.

  • MK

Thanks a lot to Simon and iPhone Dev Team.

For the last one month I was little hesitant to upgrade my iPhone (2G) based on the bad experiences that few of them got into to while upgrading their iPhones.

After going through Simon’s steps and the user feedback it gave me full confidence to go ahead with the Upgrade 🙂

I have successfully upgraded my iPhone (2G) from 1.1.4 (that was jailbreaked/unlocked using Ziphone in Mar’08) to 2.2 (using Simon’s instructions and QuickPwn22-1.exe).

The whole process took me 45 minutes, right from Step-1 to Step-16 (including the restoration of my contacts, songs and etc that were synced to my computer earlier before the upgrade).

Step-5 (10 mins) and Step-14 (7 mins) are the most time consuming steps.

Just follow the steps listed in this page (by Simon) diligently and you will not have any problems. The key word is patience !!!!!

Good luck to the rest of the folks still on 1.1.4 firmware.

your step by step guidlines are exceptional and amazing. Thank you very much.

  • lady l

hi just tried to follow these steps and after i launched iphone 1.1-2.2-5g77-restore-ipsw, went to open it and after it said there was an error, pls help also i lost everything afrter paying for a lot of stuff. pls email me or leave msg on here, thx [email protected]

  • @mynk, if you’re on firmware 1.1.4, your iPhone should be a 2G iPhone.

@lady l, which step did you encounter the error?

@kenny, did you upgrade iTunes to the latest version? Also, did you use USB hub? Try not to use USB hub and connect iPhone via USB cable directly. You can also refer to Apple support forum for possible fix.

  • Pankaj

    Hi Simon,

Thanks for your efforts to make jailbreak process easy.

    Successfully completed the process.

But I have lost all my messages. By any chance can I get back the SMS messages. I mean the text messages that i had in my iphone.

Thank you and awaiting for your reply.

  • mynk

    thnks sir

  • pierre

hey Simon.. Thank’s for the advice when I tried to do the procedures again it did good i’m now in 2.2 do you know an application like isms by shawn chain that can work in 2.2?

  • @Pankaj, did you backup the SMS (via iTunes) before upgrade? If yes, you can sync it with iTunes again and restore it back.

@pierre, you can try “MySMS”, which is a pretty good SMS application. You can download it for free from Cydia.

  • adalin

  • Chris

    Hey Simon,
Thank for all your effort in this, worked like a charm!

  • solikedude

I upgraded from jailbroken and unlocked 1.1.4 phone to 2.2:
I remove the SIM, upgraded iTunes and the phone firmware to 2.2
After the firmware, I did NOT “restore” in iTunes, but ran the steps for QuickPwn above. I inserted the new SIM card before running the final step in QuickPwn

    Everything worked fine!

  • pierre

Yeah!Thank you very much Simon for your hardworks!

  • adalin, I guess you’re using WinXP. For XP, please download and install .NET framework before launching QuickPwn. This should resolve the error.

You can download .Net framework here:

  • Josh

Thanks! Worked flawlessly on the first time. Upgraded my jailbroken 1.1.4 phone to 2.2.

  • mephisto zap

Hi well i got the iphone and jailbroke it in 2.2 but the wifi is bad and when i try to connect to it it would not, i used to have a 1g touch and i got great reception but it will not even pick up any signal, but everything else works like calling…, could it be a problem with the baseband, thanks and hope there is a fix for it,

  • Michael

My original 2G that was never under AT&T contract and unlocked from the beginning, started to develop touch screen problems. After much persistence, I got Apple store to give me a replacement phone without trying to activate it at their store. Now that I’m at home and trying to unlock it, I can’t get iTunes 8.02.02 to recognize my phone to get to the “restore” button. Instead, it is asking my to activate my phone, first. I’ve downloaded all your files, but how do I get iTunes home page where the I can hold down the “shift” button while selecting “restore” in iTunes and perform step 3?

  • Vicki

i read, downloaded and watched the videos and it went perfectly smooth. Now I have an unlocked phone. YAY!! =D

  • GMS
  • jr

Ummmi get an error message that says… the aplicaition failed to initialize properly (0x0000135). Click on OK to terminate the application.

then i get the ok button…

    and thats it…

    Help please!

  • jr

im am trying to unlock a 1st gen iphone…i am currently on 1.1.1 and ive been using my phone like that since but i want to update it……

  • kris

settings-> general–> network–> does not show edge options

  • jr

    kris….what you talking about

  • jr, please install .NET framework first. It’s required if you’re using WinXP. You can download it here:

  • Michael

I just received a new (out of the box) replacement 2G, first generation, iPhone from my local Apple store that is not activated and I don’t know how to get to the “summary” page of iTunes where the “restore” button is located. Instead, it is trying to force me to activate the phone, first. I don’t have a contract with AT&T, so how do I get iTunes to recognize my phone on the “summary” page without going through the activation process? I don’t want to activate the phone with AT&T. Thanks in advance for your help, Simon.

  • Hass

Hi, thanks alot man for the guide really helpful. i am using tmobile and this guide has succesfully upgraded me from 1.1.4 to 2.2 and jailbreak and unlocked it. i was really hesitant in upgrading before but after reading the success comments via this guide i gave it go and worked out really well.

  • iphoneprob

using 2.1 version. want to use t mobile sim card. I have done this process everything seemed to work fine the only problem is I get no carrier settings and when I insert my sim it says please connect to I tunes different sim detected.

  • Rayed

    I have a problem.
I did the procedure while having the AT&T SIM in the iPhone, and everything worked fine. But, when I inserted my other SIM It says “Different SIM Detected, Please connect to iTunes.” When I connect to iTunes it tells me that the SIM I have is not supported and that only supported SIM cards from supported carriers can be used to activate the phone.
I put my AT&T SIM back to activate it, but it already is activated. I only get this message when I put my other SIM.
I can receive calls and messages but I can’t send them nor can I use my phone.
It’s on the USB –> iTunes page.
I read through the comments and couldn’t find a similar problem, Simon?

  • Hi Simon,
My phone was bricked and I was giving up until I read your blog. Worked first time without any issues. Big thanks to the Dev Team and to yourself – keep up the good work – all the best..

  • Thanks!!! It worked like a charm and this is the first time I’ve ever unlocked an iPhone!! I recommend this highly.

  • Ravi

Thanks Simon. Your blog has always been helpful in jail breaking and unlocking. Mine is working like and charm. Keep up the good work.

  • huge

I have a iphone 2g with 2.2 software. Currently I have AT&T connection and the iphone is unlocked. I want to unlock the iphone mainly because I want to use different carriers when travelling abroad, but in US I want to use ATT. Please let me know if ATT can be used with unlocked iphone?
Also the post here have steps to upgrade from 2.1 to 2.2 and followed by Jailbreaking and unlocking. Will it work if i start from step 6 to unlock my iphone and still use ATT sim card?

  • Pankaj

    Dear Simon,

I upgraded my 1.1.4 iphone through the above process to 2.2 and the process went successfully. I have been using the iphone for more than a week normally. But since yesterday when I tried to restart my phone it got stuck on the apple logo, it doesnt go ahead of that. I tried to sync it with itunes and it detects the iphone, but the problem is that the iphone restarts within 15 minutes again and again so it cannot sync completely.

Please help me. Should I restore it again.

Thank you. Waiting for your quick reply.

  • Ron

I just purchased a 2G iphone with 2.2 already installed. So I skipped the first 2 steps 3,4 and 5. But after running the jailbreak I’m getting an error message that ” It could not be done. Iphone was connected in a wrong mode. ”
    please help me.

  • Ron

“Your device has connected in the wrong mode. This can caused by incorrect following of the instructions or a faulty USB connection. Please try again.

  • Charlie

    Hey everyone,

My phone is currrently jailbroken with 2.02 firmware and I am going to upgrade to 2.2. Does anyone know about contacts being removed? When I plug my phone into Itunes it says it’s backing it up, does that mean when I plug it in after ugrading that it will re-sync all of my contacts currently on my phone?

  • Aarron

ok so atm i am jail breaking it and it all appears to be going well… ill leave follow up comment on how it all went.
    Wish me luck!

  • Aarron

but plz help me to know ,is my iphone still 2g or 3g..????
and if it is still 2g how can i convert it to 3g??
is it is possible to convert it?????
and wht are the diffrencer between 2.2 2G iphone to 2.2 3G iphone???

will be very gr8ful for ur help..

  • Aarron

right so i noticed that a couple of other people were having the same problem i was, were after jailbreaking and unlocking it said different SIM detected please connect to to Itunes and it would not work on any other service provider.
what i did to solve this problem was remove the SIM card and reinstall the 2.2 oftware on to the Iphone again. after it is compleat it will ask you to put in a SIM card to register the phone, don’t. close Itunes and then put in the SIM you would like to use (in my case t-mobile) and start the jailbreaking/unlocking prossess again and vuala and thats that prblem solved.

Mynk you asked if your Iphone is still 2g after updating to the 2.2 software, in answear the that, no your iphone is still a 2g Iphone

hoped this help a few people

  • prady

  • yeeeeeeeeeeeee man i finaly doneeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee. you are the greatest!!!!!!!!

  • Divyang

Hi i want to try this on ver 1.1.2 , anyone tried it yet ,
do let me know if it works ,
    Thank you .

  • @Pankaj, that’s pretty strange for your problem. Did you try to reboot the iPhone? Sometimes, a simple reboot will clean up the problem.

    @Divyang, I think it’ll work for firmware 1.1.2.

@Aaron, thanks for your sharing and great advice.

  • @vicky, you can still use AT&T sim card after jailbreak. As you’re already using firmware 2.2, you may probably start from step 6. But make sure you download all the required files in step 2.

  • CyB3R

Thanks a lot for this step-by-step tutorial, i had the 1.1.4 installed until yesterday and it was a real pain in the ass, i dont even have edge enabled and when i opened safari always tried to connect from edge..! that was the thing that push me to change firmware..i follow the 1.1.4 to 2.0 and then 2.0 to 2.2 im pretty happy with it right know, its first time i use cydia, looks nice tough.

Thanks for your support. and sorry for my english its not my first language.

    Happy hollidays!

  • Charlie

Do you lose contacts when you jailbreak and even re-sync with itunes? Or do they go back into your phone when you re-sync it after jailbreaking and unlocking it?

  • @Charlie, you won’t lose the contact after jailbreak. What you have to do to preserve the contacts and SMS is to sync it with iTunes before jailbreak. After jailbreak complete, re-sync again with iTunes to restore the contacts.

  • mynk

simon sir plz solve my prob also,,
    abt the ver and gen…..

my new ver is 2.2 now from 1.1.4,,
but plz help me to know ,is my iphone still 2g or 3g..????
and if it is still 2g how can i convert it to 3g??
is it is possible to convert it?????
and wht are the diffrencer between 2.2 2G iphone to 2.2 3G iphone???

will be very gr8ful for ur help

  • @mynk, your iPhone should be a 2G iPhone. Here 2G means you are using the 2G telecom network. There is no way to convert any iPhone from 2G to 3G. If you want to enjoy 3G network for better data transfer speed, you’ll need to buy a iPhone 3G. For details about the difference between 2G & 3G, you can check out Wiki here and here.

  • Charlie

Hey guys, so I just tried to update from 2.0.2 to 2.2 using the pwange tool on my friends mac and ran into a few errors. Wondering if anyone knows what they mean. First was error 1600 when trying to load custom IPSW. Second was error 6 when trying to load the IPSW. Both of the IPSW’s were custom made. Does anyone know if windows has had better success with jailbreaking 2.2?

  • Charlie

BTW thanks Simon Ng that was true what you said. After the error messages I loaded 2.0.2 back with my friends mac and re-synced and im back to square 1 again. It is like that entire headache didn’t happen…

FOR THE PEOPLE HAVING “NO SIGNAL” ISSUES AFTER JAILBREAK (3G, 2nd gen, 2.2, Windows, Quickpwn 2.2)
Lots of people seem to be having the “no signal” problem after jailbreaking their iPhones. I also had this problem after jailbreaking the first time.
This solution worked for me, and according to everything else I’ve read this should work for other versions of the iPhone and using the Pwnage Tool for Mac.

Connect your iPhone to iTunes and do a restore. Just click the “Restore” button in the iPhone window of iTunes and it will take care of restoring your iPhone (if you want to preserve your contacts, calendar, etc. then iTunes will prompt you to back up that data). Allow your iPhone time to restore to factory settings.

After the restore, you can go ahead and add back those contacts and calendar dates. DO NOT ADD BACK ANY APPS YET. I believe this is the cause of the problem.

Now use Quickpwn (Windows) or Pwnage Tool (Mac) to jailbreak your iPhone. Afterwards everything should be fine.

The idea here is that Quickpwn/Pwnage Tool can’t do their work properly with all the apps/other crap that people put on their iPhones over time, and the interference from those things causes issues with service/rebooting after jailbreaking. After doing all that my iPhone is jailbroken and working perfectly. Props to Simon for this blog post, and I hope this helps others to avoid a service loss like mine.

  • Joe

    Two additions to my post:

1)Make sure that whatever generation/firmware you have, you’re using the corresponding Quickpwn/Pwnage Tool. (Generation/firmware info is under Settings==>General==>About) For further clarification, if you have the volume/mute buttons on the side of your iPhone, you have a 2nd gen.

2)My email is [email protected] if you need some more help. I can’t really help with incredibly technical issues like error messages or network/ip settings.

So i when and got the old 2.0.2 and the winpwn did all of that. Get the data working by downloading the tmobile hacks but because of the version half of the apps i have now don’t work. Is the wap.voicestream.com idea for people in the US with a full plan sim? Because there was no place in my settings to put in cellular data service. Oh and why are the winpwn screens always hard to read? they are never centered?

  • Curiosjo

I followed all the steps, It worked like a charm. Holding Home & Power button was weird but it worked. Good job.

  • Spangila

Thank you thank you thank you!

I was on an unlocked US AT&T 1.1.3 on UK Ornage and ‘accidently’ updated to 2.2 and locked it out. Been trying other unlockers for a day now with no success and am happy to say this one worked.
    Thanks again x

  • Spangila

Obviously I mean Orange not ornage!

Wow was i being dumb. Okay to anyone else that has had problems with data after the unlock and JB, do not i repeat DO NOT install the tmobile hacks from Cydia. I started over and went step by step and what do you know? It worked. In 2.0.2 i needed the Hacks to make data work and just expected that i would need it but once i checked after running QuickPwN it all worked and seems faster. You people are GOD’s. Dev team and all involved, really your money. Oh and Buuf2 is a sick theme check it out.

  • Jamil

  • Billy

@ Simon Ng – Thanks for having this blog where we can get help for our problems. I’m having the same issue as Ronny from a few dozen posts up. I’m using t-mobile in a 2G 2.2 unlocked phone using QuickPwn and Windows Vista. I can’t make calls or receive calls, but it shows full bars. The first hour or two I could make calls. Now when I hit the green call button, it just opens up the dial-pad, freezes, and then closes.

    What should I do?

Thank you in advance for your help and Happy New Year!

  • Amry

    Hi Simon

Thanks a ton for posting all this here.. 🙂
I successfully upgraded my firmware from 1.1.4 to 2.2 and itunes to 8.0
I am successfully able to make calls but I am unable to sync data back into iphone.

Infact I cannot see any arrow besides iphone which could be expanded to see the phone contents. There is no option as such to “Sync iphone” in file menu! So my iphone is all blank without any previous contents! And I am also getting error “itunes was unable to load provider data from sync services”

    Waiting your inputs on this!

Not sure but some ideas are : Easy to over look it that you have to tell it what to sync with. there are little check boxes in itunes when your iphone is connected. Another thing to get you started is settings>mail, contacts>Import SIM contacts. you might also try to set up accounts on the phone first. Hope that helps. Let us know.

  • sagie

thnx bro my iphone`s been locked nw for three months nd in less than three mins it opened

  • sagie

could any one please let me knw how to fix the issue with numbers instead of names in iphone messages thnx

  • hatori

I too am having the problem where my iPhone hangs after the prompt “Wait for your iPhone to connect in recovery mode…” at the start of step 13. I am running Vista Business and have tried the unlock process a number of times. I’ve tried it with my original back up as well as by first backing up with the blank-slate version of the firmware. Can somebody please help me???

As an aside, I originaly managed to unlock my phone on a computer running XP and when I got to the UK I inserted the new SIM card but I got the error telling me that it isn’t a valid SIM card so I tried to re-run the unlocking process on my Vista machine but now I can’t get past the 13th step. The problem is that I only have this laptop with me so I’m in a bit of a bind.

  • EVAN

Hi everyone, i may need some serious help here…

i all ready did all this steps 3 times. and everything went according to the description… it does all the steps fine, and it tells me that everything seems to be working fine.

the iphone is still locked.. every time i put a different sim card it tells me that that is an incorect sim card, and not appears to be supported.. even if a put a sim card from another iphone tells me the same, if a put an att sim card from another phone not an iphone tells me the sa,ethe only time it works is when i put the original sim card from that iphone on… and then is telling me that it needs to be activated to please use itunes to do the activation process… so i did it again and again… following the steps one by one and still the same situation.. im doing the fourth try at this moment but well lets see what happens..

so i have a few questions.. does it matter if a put or not a sim card on the iphone while jailbreaking and unlocking? do i need to put the original sim card? or a sim from another company? anyways i all ready try everyone…

    please help me…

p.s. i try the same staeps in two different iphones 2G or first generation and the same situation, the jailbroken is fine i get cydia installer and i use and ownload packs and even som “games” but with the unlock phone part im just stuck

  • Jose

I am Having exactly the same problem as EVAN

  • Jeddd

Evan just I thought. Update itunes. I missed that on my first try. Or make sure it matches the quickpwn at the top.

  • Kitek

Great guide. I followed all the steps, It worked like a charm. It is working with T-mobile.I propose to reset iphone to factory setting before you start..

  • @EVAN, while jailbreaking and unlocking, I suggest to put the 3rd party SIM card in iPhone.

  • Maky

Everything worked out fine 4 me. Except that the Phone doesn’t work… I mean I cannot call nobody because when I tap the Phone app, it appears for 2-3 sec and then disappears (can’t tap into it). So I go into Contacts to call somebody (or use Fring to call via cellular), but I can’t interrupt the conversation (the other part has to do it). There is a bar at the top of the screen saying “Touch to return to call” but nothing happens when I touch it (it disappears and appears again). Any suggestion? Thanks in advance, greets from Croatia!

Maky, i had the same issue and found it was because of the dialer themes. Leave it plain. Let me know if that helps.

  • Maky

I’m new to all this stuff, but I’m sure I didn’t installed any theme, so I think the problem is somewhere else (maybe some package from Installer or Cydia). Thanks anyway… 🙂

  • Jose

@Simon NG. So I have tried what you recomended to Evan, but all I can do when I insert the sim is make emergency calls using my T-mobile service, but I have to remove my sim to access the rest of the Iphone apps and settings. Thank You for your time.

  • y0han

Great stuff! Took me 4 tries at step 13 and 1 switch of USB port.
I was sweating a bit the first time it’s stuck, but now I’m smiling very wide. 🙂
    Thanks Simon! Great blog.

  • Qdawg

I jailbroke/unlocked 2.2 with tmobile and everything works fine except my edge!!! And when I go to network settings it no longer has the apn settings it only has the VPN , wifi, and if you want to take the data roaming on and off, please help I need my edge desperately!!

  • Qdawg

    By the way it’s a 1gen iPhone not 3g

  • Soubhik Datta

    Works works works!
Thank you very much. I have just upgraded from 1.1.3 to 2.2
Everything is working alright, just my previously installed applications are gone (maybe due to my mistake) thats all, I wasn’t worried about them anyways.

    Hello all,
I am working from my compaq laptop, and quickpwn is not detecting my iphone.
I didnt follow the steps however to restore my iphone to firmware 2.2 because i thought that it was already running on that. Please let me know what i should do. Should i restore the firmware as described, or can quickpwn detect my iphone without restoring the firmware.

  • Soubhik Datta

    @ Raj

quickpwn will only detect the iPhone if the phones software version is above 2.0.
I will assume you are getting the message from the application.
your question does not state what you want to achieve though.

  • Raj

Yes i am getting the message, but i am positive that i have updated it to 2.2
    My question is:
Quickpwn is not detecting my device, and is this due to the fact that i skipped the restore firmware steps?

If not then tell me how quickpwn can detect my device, when i plug it into the USB port.

  • Raja

Please cross check the version on iTunes. It should auto detect if it is a supported version.
If it does not, then I think you should restore the firmwire to the the one given here.

  • Atif

simon, i have successfully upgrade my 2G to v2.2 but now im having problem that it doesnt show any number when i want to dial or show my contact list. Also it automatically closed when i dial through contact list.

Qdawg, I had the same problem. I think it was because befor i would even check to see if edge worked, i installed the tzones and tmobile hacks. But I still re did everything. Took the links at the top for Gen1 iphones put it all in one folder. Updated itunes. Restarted my computer and went from there. The final try at 3am took less than 20mins and worked.

  • Rengga

I try to desperately unlocking n jailbreaking for 3 days…
but now when i try your way… WELL DONE!!! Thank you very much!!!!!

  • Atif

Simon: Now im having a problem after jail breaking I could no longer access my phonebook or make any calls. What should i do, should i do the whole process again or restore to factory setting through itunes

  • Michael

Worked the first time on my unlocked g2 with 1.1.4. Read the instructions over and over about 5 times and then went for it. Pulled my SIM card out at first until the itunes site said to replace it (T-Mobile). I figured I was done for, but went on to a completely successful conclusion. It did ask me which provider I wanted to use (ATT or T-Mobile) and after selecting T-Mobile it got bars and Edge. When I turn the power off and then back on, it asks which network I want, but I dismiss it and it works fine.

Thanks a lot for a very good guide! Michael

  • EVAN

well i finally got both phones working fine… i did had the latest version of itunes installed.. i knew that was not the problem because with the first iphone it happen with the last quickpwn, and using the 2.1 firmware…

i did the firmware installation whit no sim on the phone. and then put the sim in and then plug it to itunes, and then the QUICKPWN, and i did turn off my firewall all the way true… because my firewall also control the creation of applications (McAffe desktop firewall 8.5).

well all the iphones are working great now… i just had the battery problem in one it didnt last one day on stand by… i just did a full 10 hours charge and unpluged it. will see how long it last.. i remove sim card

thank you to all for all the help…

  • ambrish

    hi guys,
Simont tnx for a hard work.
I unlocke my phone even it was little bit difficult in the start because I placed downloaded files on desctop, and was using ATT’s sim. When I put that files in different directory and used 3rd party SIM everything worked fine. SO I DID it, of course with Simon’s help, and you guys who left notes of your own experiences with it.

  • Jay

I was sucessful in using QuickPwn 2.2 to unlock and jailbreak my 1st gen phone. Everything appears to be correct, except the “No Service” in the top left corner. I did the process twice and still get the same message. I even did another phone for a friend and it reads the SIM on that unit. Can someone please advise as what I can try to get service and SIM recognized.

  • nixtwix

Everything went smoothly!!! Successful first try!haha Thanks a bunch simon! 😀

  • Wee

  • radu

Hi guys, I have a jailbreaked Iphone 2G with 1.1.4 software version and I’m trying to update it to 2.2. My problem appears at step 4: I can’t locate the file “iPhone1,1_2.2_5G77_Restore.ipsw”. I have downloaded twice the files simon mentioned, and still there is no file with this name.
Can you tell my what am I doing wrong? I am running Windows XP on my computer. Could this be the problem? Maybe it cannot read .ipsw files?

  • Omg, I think it works!!
THANK YOU SO MUCH, I was sooooo worried for my phone :/ I’m using starhub (in Singapore) which isn’t apple-supported so I can’t bring it to any epicentre to ask for help.
    Thanks once again!

…Now if it doesn’t work (TOUCHWOOD!), you’ll be hearing from me…

  • Rajanee

I have a problem; I think the jail break was successful, but not the unlock. I had 2.2 version before i started this process. I followed all the steps and i think jail break was done, not unlock. I did not have another carrier sim, so i put my friend’s att sim, it did not recognize, “different sim detected, connect to itunes”. I tried the procedure again. this time while restoring in the first step I took the original sim off the phone (as evan suggested) and restored it and put it back in and followed all the steps. again, I guess yes for jail break and no for unlock. I did not have any problems in any of the steps. i went through as describes in the above steps. As I said, I had 2.2 already on my 2g iphone. does it have anything to do with and I have another att sim to test if its unlocked or not. Please help/suggest me. Simon, I appreaciate your page as it seems many benefitted from this content.

  • @Wee, for application installed via iTunes, you can sync it to iTunes on your computer. After upgrade, you can then sync it back to restore them. But for applications installed via Installer, you may need to install them again.

@radu, which browser are you using to download the files? Are you using Safari?

  • Rajanee

For any one having problem with the message after jail break, “different sim detected, connect to itunes”, try this. I did it and worked for me:

restored without original att sim on 2.2 and then closed/disconnected itunes. and then put external sim which i planned to use (another att sim in my case) and followed the same procedure. It works great, no problem. I have to try it other carrier’s sim to check it works or not.

    Thanks a lot guys.

  • Bacho

THX simon Good work 😉 , i have already done it with my 2G 2.1 to 2.2 without any problem

  • wayne

SOMEONE PLEASE HELP….2nd attemp at help

was sucessful in using QuickPwn 2.2 to unlock and jailbreak my 1st gen phone. Everything appears to be correct, except the “No Service” in the top left corner. I did the process twice and still get the same message. I even did another phone for a friend and it reads the SIM on that unit. Can someone please advise as what I can try to get service and SIM recognized.

I just used winpwn 2.5 beta with iphone1.1_2.0.2_5C1_Restore and it still shows “No Service”. It appears that the jailbreak and everything else worked, just the “No Service”. The SIM works in another phone.

  • xgeoffx801

ok so i used the previous version 2.1 to upgrade and unlock my 2g iphone from 1.1.4 to 2.1 firmware i am using tmobile and it worked great first try. i followed all the above steps to try and get 2.2 but when i get to step number 13 it just sits on wait for iphone to reboot in recovery mode and will not go through the rest of the process. i tried it 4 times and still no progress. so i went back and restored to 2.1 but would still like 2.2 any suggestions would be fantastic.

  • xgeoffx801

  • lucy

i tried to jailbreak my iphone once and it worked perfectly, but while i was jailbreaking another one, the program quickpwn freezes and says it encountered a problem and closes, this happens right when it is about to connect in recovery mode, i’ve tried all your solutions but no luck, if you know why this is happening, i would appreciate it.

After updating to 2.2 and jailbreaking and unlocking, does the iphone get the app store icon? Thanks for the help

  • nk

@ Simon, I have a jailborken & unlocked 2G iPhone v2.2. The phone works fine for few hours and then hangs/ freezes. Every time it freezes/hangs I need to power it off and then power it on.
I have restored the phone’s firmware a no of times. using different versions of itunes on different PCs, followed by pwning it using Quickpwn 22, even changed the USB ports a no of times. Reset the phone to factory settings without any success. I have even tried not loading Cidia & Installer. nothing seems to be working. can anyone help.

    Thanks in advance

  • Desmond

after upgrading to 2.2, all my previously installed games are not installed. Only the free ones from app stores are installed. The others which are free dl from 3rd party website are not installed. According to the error log it states that its not recognized. Thanks for the help.

  • Desmond

after upgrading to 2.2, all my previously installed games are not installed. Only the free ones from app stores are installed. The others which are free dl from 3rd party website are not installed. According to the error log it states that its could not be verified.

  • @Jacob, you’ll get the App Store icon after upgrade to firmware 2.2.

@nk, did you try to jailbreak your iPhone again?

@Desmond, I think you’re referring to those games installed via Installer. Yes, you may not be able to install those games. Installer on firmware 2.2 is still in beta and those free games may not be compatible with the latest firmware. Also, compared to iPhone App Store and Cydia, the applications hosted on Installer is less attractive.

@Simon, I did try to jailbreak again. I actually tried all possible combination but noting seemed to work. Its been nearly 24 hours since then and its working fine, . earlier the iphone used to hang in about 3-4 hrs time. hope the issue is resolved although the phone is still under observation. • Gabriela

I’m having problems when using QuickPwn to unlock and jailbreak. After sometime holding down de power button with the home button pressed, the iphone turn off so it loses the USB connection. I already tried to stay continually pushing the power button during that 10 seconds so it doesn’t turn off, but I got the same error in the end of all that seconds couting. Can you help me? Tks

  • Gabriela

It already worked…Thank you for your work.

  • Poitius

Am a new user of 2.2! Being a heavy SMS user I’m really missing the iSMS programme from 1.1.4 Tried MySMS from Cydia as suggested to someone by Simon in the blog but that programme is not free besides being not half as good and requires registration. Would appreciate it if someone could suggest other alternatives!

  • Charlie

I got to step 7. When I launch quickpwn it says that it only supports firmaware 2.0….I am using windows vista. Please helpe me….anyone…

  • Charlie

Hey guys, no idea what happened but I will do my best to explain my dilema and solution so if anyone else has this probem they don’t have to do what I did and lose their mind and almost throw up. When I launched quickpwn it told me that .>=2.0 firmware is not supported. So what you can do to bypass that stupid error message is simple. unplug your iphone once you put the 2.2 firmware from above onto your phone. Then launch QuickPwn and click ok to the error message and plug in your iPhone. Then follow the steps and it should work like mine did. Except you are freaking out as its working haha. And the screen will turn white for a few moments and thats ok…just relax. Also I got an error message when I first put the fimware on my phone (unknown error OxE0000435). Switch USB ports and that should sort it out… The important part is my phone is unlocked and jailbroken on firmware 2.2 from 2.0.2. Thanks for the Blog Simon! Keep up the good work. Happy jailbreaking everyone.

  • Charlie

@Poitius- try bitesms…it offers the landscape typing without the 30 second delay in messages. it will only do landscape for typing though, not viewing messages. It also does not have the forwarding texts option either. Try and let me know what you think..

I upgraded my phone to 2.2 without knowing. This worked for me and I have t-mobile. It was worth the wait.

  • rad

hey it worked i thought i had to go to the mall for repairs but your software realy worked thanks a lot.

  • Manny

I also had the “different Sim detected”issue.Tried over and over but still had same problem.

    Heres how i solved it..
    1. I restored the iphone with the 2.2 firmware downloaded from this site(with no Sim inserted)
    2. After restoration, you’ll be asked to install valid sim and connect to itunes so the phone can be activated.Close itunes and Install the DESIRED sim(in my case tmobile).
    3. Follow the quickpwn process and Voila!!

  • Jandry

    Hey Simon!

I have a bit of a problem. I have an jailbroken, unlocked iphone 2g running on 2.0. I want to update it to 2.2 but i see that the instructions you gave require the power button. Unfortunetly my power button does not work. =/ Is there anyway around that?

    Thanks in advanced!

  • Amanda

hey i have the first generation iphone 16g and I have 2.2. I did everything thats instructed but the phone wont unlock it doesnt let me access the phone because it wont accept the sim card. It says “different sim detected” so I took off the sim to get access to cydia and I downloaded the bootneuter 2.1 but it freezes everytime it loads.

  • rajanee

@ nk, I had the same problem. after jailbreak and unlock, phone freezed frequently, power button did not respond and some weird stuff. i thought it could be a hardware issue. I went back to itunes and restored it and my phone is unlocked now. I will have to follow the same process again. can you please tell me what exactly did you do from the apple website that helped you in the troubleshooting and not facing above issues?

  • guy wire

after much angst and worrywarting about bricking the phone , I upgraded my 2.0FW unlocked 2gen iphone to 2.2FW without a hitch using this site. I had turned off terminal and messenger in XP , and loaded .net 3.5 but I never pulled the tmobile sim out. thanks , Simon, for helping us!

  • @Jandry, I can’t think of any workaround for that. You need to use the POWER button to put iPhone into DFU mode.

@Amanda, did you try the jailbreak procedures again? Sometimes, a second attempt may solve the issue.

  • jaydub

    worked great!

I had an unlocked iphone v. 2.1 and upgraded it to 2.2 without any problems. I did this on a pc with windows xp…

  • Andy

Hello, please help me. The unlock has worked fine for Etisalat in the UAE (Dubai), however now I am getting the standard network message that I have insufficient credit to make the call/text, when I have at least AED 30 left on my phone. The sim works fine in other phones but not in my 2g apple (mac) since unlocking 2.2 through pwnge.

If you can tell me how to sort this I would be very grateful?

  • bigboo

  • I have a 1st gen Iphone, v2.2 just upgraded via Itunes. It’s my old Iphone, as I am using the 3G. I was basically using it in v2.1 as an Ipod Touch, had wifi, working email, apps, etc. The phone has no sim card in it, and I upgraded it to v2.2. Now I get the phone wants to be activated by Itunes. At this point I only want to use it on wifi and try out jailbroke apps. Can I run through this process on a Vista machine with no SIM Card, and jailbreak it so it works like an ipod touch basically?

I’m new to the SIM card thing, as I was a Sprint customer, so if I wanted to could I take the sim card out of my wife’s AT&T phone, and insert it into the Iphone and use it?
Not sure how that would work with the data plan and all?

    Open for advice.. Thanks

I have a 2G iphone 2.2. My PC runs on Vista.
I downloaded everything, followed the tutorial to the T, and QuickPwn goes all the way to the “Ready to Pwn” screen and gets stuck on the first step: “Wait for your iphone….recovery Mode”. I have waited about 40 mins and nothing.
How long do I have to wait untill nothing will happen? What could be the problem? pls help

  • @kunal, it won’t take too long. I suggest you to check this post about the possible solution for the QuickPwn hang issue.

  • @Marc, which SIM card did you use during jailbreak? Try to put in the vodafone sim and perform the procedures again.

@Kade, you probably need to enable some Windows services before using QuickPwn. You can check out this post about the hang issue of QuickPwn.

Simon, Your site is great, and the above steps are very easy for every one.

  • Hey!

    I have a iPhone 2G 2.2 with T-Mobile, running Vista, iTunes 7.7.
I synced my iphone because my screen stopped working.
Apple gave me a new one no questions.
It had 2.2 installed, so I jailbroke it and unlock it with this tutorial.
but iTunes still says “the sim card inserted in this iphone does not appear to be supported ”

Please help! Please! I really can’t live without my iPhone.
    It’s my life!

I recently jailbreaked my iPhone 2.0 using this guide. So I restored it to 2.2 FW and used QuickPwn on Windows 7. So everything worked out on the QuickPwn and it was supposedly unlocked with BootNeuter. But I today just put in a T-Mobile SIM card in to see if it was unlocked and it says it was a different network and I had to connect it to iTunes. I did that and it says the network wasn’t supported. Any ideas?

  • Alec

Just jailbreaked my iphone. Everything went smoothly. Iphone rebooted upon completion but still says”Different SIM detected. Please connect to iTunes”. I can only get to emergency call screen. Was able to make calls using tmobiel sim card, but can not get to any apps. Does anyone know what is wrong?

  • John

I forgot to include that I had an AT&T sim card in it by accident. I saw it in my iPhone when I ejected it out. Any ideas?

  • Jeff

I have the 1st gen iphone. I did everything right, i think, and when it went to reload my ipod, the apple never went away, I waited 5 mins. HELP!!!
It just stopped on the step saying wait for your iphone to connect in recovery mode.!!!

  • Salim

I posted this in 2.1 blog too.. followed the procedure here in 2.2, same issues:

I am new to iphone .. I bought a refurbished iPhone, trying to follow the procedure described here. But I never get to the first screen in itunes that shows me a “restore” button (The picture shown after these words above: Installing iPhone Firmware 2.2 via iTunes
    3. Next, connect your iPhone to your computer via USB cable and launch iTunes. Select your iPhone in iTunes.).

When I first connect my iphone to the computer, I am presented with a screen that prompts me to activate my iphone with at&t. When I cancel out of it, I get ” your activation has been cancelled” and that point I can only eject out my iphone. Any help will be appreciated!

  • Salim

I got some hint from the above and then I successfully completed unlocking .. Thank you!

  • Jackie

Well I did it. Wasn’t very hard. My only problem is that I lost all my apps along with other things. I guess my iphone did not back up properly. Kinda upset because I was trying to avoid this but…. Just make sure your phone is backed up properly.

  • hey heard great things about the dev team and decided this was the way to go.
i had t o do it like 5 times over, but once i read this it suddenly became easy. i upgraded my phone and itunes, inserted my sim card from cinci bell and after following the steps here got it to work!

  • Victor

Quickpawn was successfully installed. however, Why do I get the message “Different Sim Detected, Please to iTunes” when I insert the globe sim and now Im stuck!

-What happened before was, I accidentally installed the 2.2 from itunes making my phone useless.

Any Idea? Please Help……….. my email is [email protected].

Hey simon, i have read each & every comment but i still need a nod from ur side before i actually proceed.
I have 2g iphone firmware 1.1.14 jailbroke & unlocked using ziphone done by myself.. & now i feel i have waited a long time to upgrade my iphone to 2.2

BUT i have few queries after checking all comments…
    1. Should i keep sim card inside the iphone or remove it before starting the process?
    2. Should i uninstall all the applications which i installed through installer before the process?
    3. can i revert back to my current firmware 1.1.14 in case something didnt work out?
    4. Will it improve battery life of my 2g iphone after upgrade? currently last just a day

I am just little uncertain … that’s all

    – Raj

  • Damian Katz

Do I have to leave the AT&T sim card in while running this program on my Iphone or do I put my T-Mobile sim card?

  • @Raj,

    1. I suggest you to keep the SIM card inside the iPhone.
    2. No need to uninstall the application, but all Installer applications will be removed after upgrade. You’ll have to re-install it. However, you may not be able to find the Installer application on firmware 2.2 as not every Installer applications are compatible with the new firmware. Also, Cydia (an alternative to Installer) is more popular on firmware 2.x.
    3. I haven’t tried to revert back my firmware. But from some readers’ reply, this is possible.
    4. No. Don’t expect there is a great improvement.

@Damian, I suggest you to put in T-mobile sim card during jailbreak. However, there is no concrete answer to your question. Some readers mentioned, they took out the sim card during the jailbreak process. You may browse through the comments and I believe you may find out some t-mobile users’ experience. Any other t-mobile users can help Damian?

  • Raj

@simon, should i keep AT&T (original) SIM card or the one i am currently using (different carrier) during the process? BTW i m in India…

  • Raj

    Hey Simon….
Thanks a lot… finally i have upgraded my iphone …. following your manual step by step….. it a great feeling….

Now i have a very small question: can i access app store & install apps…do i need a itunes account….???

  • DARWIN615

Tmobile Users, this worked for me!!

    Erin. Post # 76
    “Everything seemed to work smoothly.”
However, after the whole process was done, I inserted my sim card and my iPhone displayed this message:”Different sim card detected, please connect to iTunes.” I connected, and iTunes told me that they did not support my t-mobile carrier. Nothing seemed to go wrong, though! What has happened?

This is exactly what happened to me the first time I went through this unlock process and I was starting to worry.
Note: I had an AT&T SIM card in the phone during this first try at unlocking the phone.

What worked for me was putting the Tmobile SIM card in before the jailbreak process, I put my Tmobile SIM card in right after step 5 where the phone is restored to 2.2 firmware and before step 7.

SO, restore the iphone to 2.2 firmware as seen up to step 5. After this process is complete stick your Tmobile SIM card in and launch Quickpwn 2.2 and follow the steps provided in this guide. It worked beautifully for me. BIG thanks to SimonBlog for putting this up and the iPhone Dev Team for developing Quickpwn.

Hopefully this will help some people and if someone has already posted something like this, then I don’t care because I didn’t read through all the comments.

hey, i have a question… it says that i successfully done the process with quikpwn 2.2 but then again, it says no service and wouldn’t recognize any sim? Plus I’ve tried to download bootneuter and my iphone 2g hangs up everytime I open it, making me unable to access it at all… What should I do?

  • Stef

Hello I have a slight problem with unlocking an iphone 2g 16gb on software version 2.2.1. I updated to 2.2.1 with itunes and followed all instructions with quickpwn 2.5. The problem I have is: Iphone shows T-Mobile sim, which is correct, but I cannot make or receive phone calls or send and receive sms. It says call forwarding active…and a voice mail. When I call the voice mail service it doesn’t work. When I add the simcard into another phone, there is no voice mail. When I go into the phone settings it says call forwarding active – forwarding to “error” and I cannot move the slider. I can’t do anything within the phone settings. Everything is greyed out. I added an orange sim into the iphone to see if it recognises it, but it shows “no service”…any other sim card doesn’t work either. I tried unlocking with a simcard in the phone and also no simcard in the phone. Both times it didn’t work. I unlocked many iphones and this is the first one that doesn’t work. This phone has been previously activated with O2 on a contract, but the owner then gave me the phone as a present. I really don’t know what else to do. Please let me know…and many thanks.
I also downgraded it to software version 2.2, and tried to unlock it, but no luck.
    Cheers Stef

I get the message “different SIM installed, connect to itunes” after doing a jailbreak with Quickpwn.

The phone works fine if I replace the Orange SIM with my O2 SIM. It has installed Cydia, which seems to work, though I do not yet know what it is supposed to do.

Iphone 2G, latest upgrade as of Feb 1st 2009

I jailbroke an 8GB 2G U.S. I-phone to use it in the UK on with Orange Sim on a contract. The jailbreak worked fine and everything appeared to be fine using version 2.2. However after several weeks of trying to get on-line using GPRS I can not get it to work. I can surf great using wifi but not get online at all apart from this. I have entered all the Orange network setting combinations I can find but to no avail! If there a problem with this as other users appear to have made it work??

Any help or things to try would be great, as I have been desparately been trying to get this to work for 5 weeks now….

  • RJ

I started the process by downloading thse files and I clicked SHIFT+Restore and selected the iphone firmware file from itunes. It displayed error message “An unknown error occured (1403).”
I cannot beyond this point. However, I have tried without this step and with quickpwn, and it didnt work. Am I doing anything wrong?

    Thanks for the help.

  • @subbu, you can try to download & install a tweak called “Volume Boost (2.2.0)” from Cydia. This may resolve your issue.

Can I restore it on 2.2 somehow?

this is regarding the “different sim card” problem that many people are having.

alright i posted a comment earlier. comment number 366.

that time i unlocked an 8gb 2g iphone. i upgraded to a 16gb iphone and tried to unlock/jailbreak the new phone. it wouldn’t work! i was mad as fack because i was thinking it would go smoothly and the stupid “different sim card message” wouldn’t go away. well i did some more research and i ran across a post by “Willoughby” in this thread. post number 42.

    His method works!

“1. I restored the iphone with the 2.2 firmware downloaded from this site(with no Sim inserted)
    2. After restoration, you’ll be asked to install valid sim and connect to itunes so the phone can be activated.Close itunes and Install the DESIRED sim(in my case tmobile).
    3. Follow the quickpwn process and Voila!!”

SIMON you should include this in your steps to unlocking/jailbreaking. i know it would help a lot of people.

  • mastersousuke

Hi, Thanks for this guide. However, I think I’m stuck in between Step 13 and 14. I did the restart stuff hold button, but it takes forever on the “Uploading exploit bootloader” screen. And I also notice that my iPhone does not show the downloading data like what I’ve seen on step 14. Please help. Thanks!

  • mastersousuke

Oh, I get it now. It looks like a USB issue. I used my USB at the back of my PC and it is now perfectly working. Many thanks!

  • SuddenImpulse

OMG, Darwin Sinthavong 615…. thank you so much!!!

I’ve tried this unlock 5 times without success until I saw your note about restoring WITHOUT THE SIM, disconnecting iTunes and THEN installing new SIM And running through the Quikpwn process.

    That worked perfectly!!! THANK YOU…THANK YOU…THANK YOU…!!!

    • @khalid khan, you’re right. For iPhone 3G, firmware 2.2.1 will also upgrade the baseband. And presently, yellowsn0w (the unlock solution for iPhone 3G) does not support this baseband version. So, if you’re targeting to unlock iPhone 3G, please stay with firmware 2.2. Don’t upgrade to firmware 2.2.1!

I upgraded my 2G iphone form 1.1.3 to 2.2 using the above steps a while back and it all went through without issues… But i realised that after upgrade my wifi stopped working and cannot detect networks.. After restarting the phone it connects for few sec and again disconnects..

then i tried to use quickpwn 2.2 to unlock & install cydia, but my iphone stop responding, now the itunes cant read my iphone & i try to go into dfu mode the itune recognise my iphone, pressing shift to restore my firmware trying 1.1 till 2.2.1 all of them give me an error of 1600 or 1604 …
how can i fix my iphone please

  • coby

I successfully unlocked and jail broke my iphone on a 2.1 version with QuickPwn.. just recently I reseted my phone and now I can’t seem to run QuickPwn on any of my computers. Home computer is saying this file may be unsafe so windows has blocked access (I don’t know how to allow access, it doesn’t give that option). On my work computer it says “QuickPwn has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.” I have re downloaded QuickPwn2.1 and tried 2.2 as well. In all cases I’m having the same issue.
    Please help!

  • vel

i have the 2.2 upgraded from this site n it works fine ….now upgrading to 2.2.1…tell u how it went when i’m done…oh yeah i use etisalat

    Hi Simon,
Thanks a lot for the great work….
I had a 1.1.3 iphone classic, and I used Itunes 7.6 to do the job, and it was great. Well, I lost my apps from the previous installer, but the upgrade was worth it. I’ll try to re-download them if I can.

    Thanks a lot!!!!!

  • chillum

This worked out fine with my upgrade from 1.1.4 to a 2.2.1.
I would like to say flawless but there was a hiccup. The initial firmaware load through itune completed but failed with an error E something so I did not see a step 6 screen but saw an image with a USB cable connect to itunes and the ability to dial a emergency number. I went ahead with step 13 (goofed up a few times) but eventually it worked out. Thank you making the instructions available.
BTW I use the Airtel service in India and the phone seems to be working without any issues so far.

  • i’ve install the itunes 8.0 it ask me to upgrade my iphone 2g to 2.2.1 firmware, by using windows vista the mission was completed & it was installed successfully, then i tried to install cydia by using quickpwn 2.2 but it stop responding & closed by windows, here my iphone was not recognised by my computer any more,
now i try to put it in dfu mode or restore mode, the quickpwn close with not responding while the itune start installing the firmware into the iphone till 15 minutes i c an error 1601 or 1604 & some times 2002

  • Jeff

thanks for the link thats what did the trick.

If you can’t load QuickPwn then look back at RICCI post at the top or

just go to this link and download and then it should work…

    .Net Framework Download

  • Tabaré

Does this work on ipod touch 2e gen firmware 2.2.1 to?

    • @Tabare, it doesn’t work for iPod Touch 2G for now. Hopefully, the next version of QuickPwn can jailbreak it.

  • Robot Bob

  • Danny

    Worked great!
Easy to follow instructions and smooth!

  • Hi Simon,

  • Hezha

Well.. while the quickpwn said. the pwnage process appeared to have complete successfull..my iphone never turned on back.. it just frozen on iphone logo.. what can i do?

    • @Hezha, try to press and hold-down Sleep and Home buttons together until you see the Apple logo… this would reset your iPhone… See if this works for you.

SO i was in NYC using the phone hardcore and all of the sudden the nyc subway app crashed and the phone was acting slow so i shutdown/restart. Well when the phone came back on all i got was connect to itunes like it wasn’t jailbroken. Yet the slide bar at the bottom and the background were still from the Buuf theme. I’m about to start the jailbreak and pray that i can get it back to the way it was. Anyone else have this happen?

  • Girish

    What a perfect Guide!!!!!

I bought an unlocked iphone almost 2 yrs back. Since then I never tried to come out of firmware Ver 1.0.2. Though I have read hundreds of Jailbreaking & unlocking procedures on web, it never gave me the confidence to upgrade my phone.

Your guide was just perfect and worked like Magic and now I’ve upgraded my phone to 2.2.1 (thanks for your additional notes for that).

    Thanks a million!!!

  • Damo

Thank you!!!!!!!!!!!! My phone is working now and for a novice techy person, I feel happy as larry. Great stuff fella – I was nervous I was entering into a world of dodgy files and viruses and it worked like magic.

    Over the moon!

  • Eddie

    hi Simon & bloggers,
I upgraded 2G 1.1.4–>2.2 flawlessly, thanx to u all. However, wi-fi is now very weak or drops-out and sadly can’t SCP nor get goodies from Cydia/Installer.
If I try to update Cydia/Installer sources, I get ‘repos’ sources not contactable with POSIX: operation timed out. I’m sure Saurik, BigBoss & ModMyi repos are online.
I’ve tried disabling wi-fi; enabling but m not successful.
Any suggestions/opinions on this would b much appreciated.

    • @Eddie, sometimes, it’s normal even you got POSIX timed out error in Cydia. I’m not too sure why your wifi signal is weak. It may proabably due to your wireless router. Or are you connecting to the right wireless network? Sometime, your iPhone may pick up a wrong wireless network. Also, one more thing you can try is to reset the network settings of your iPhone. Hope it helps.

  • Tufa

Hi all, First I’d like to thank Simon & DEV team for all their efforts. Second, for all those who get stuck in quickpwn at step 13 (Waiting for iphone to connect in recovery mode) all you should do is move the folder you’re working in from the desktop to any other directory. & ppl pleeeeeeeeeeaaase! read the feedbacks before you post your problems, some problems were posted here & answered TOO MANY TIMES!!

hi is the any way to unlock iphone with firmware 2.2.1 with modem firmware 02.30.03

  • Nico

Hi all, I’ve downloaded QuickPwn 225-2 from every mirror that’s located on the quickpwn site.
But I just can’t run QuickPwn, I receive the message that it has stopped working.
I’m running Windows Vista, I have the newest version of .net framework, I’ve tried a lot of things but none of them work.
    Can somebody help me?

  • Yessser

Just did this successfully for the second time. It’s straightforward. I’m now operational on T-mobile. I didn’t have an AT&T sim card, thus I had to go into restore mode (hold down power and home for about 5 seconds, then continue holding down home for another 10) first to bypass the itunes message stating that I didn’t have a sim card.

    Good Luck

  • Jay

You’re the man Simon!, thanks for the tutorial. For those who wonder if it works with t-mobile, it works just fine for me.

  • Big Ed

Hello Simon, just finsh unlocking my iphone thanks to you it works great.Keep up the good work.Thank You. Big Ed.

Thanks dude, this webpage is an incredibletime saver, last time i unlocked & jailbreak it took me 4 hours, now 1/2 hour THANKS !

  • Saira

Thank you Simon!! You are great 🙂 It worked smoothly on my 2G iphone. I have upgraded from 1.1.2 to 2.2 without any problem.

  • frozenflames2002

Thank you so much Somin!! You have no idea how much pain and agony you have helped ease. I made sure I read this forum twice and understood exactly how to do it before I jalibreaked and unlocked my brand new iphone 2g (got it as a replacement for my old one). Worked like a cinch, my phone was unlocked and working on my T-Mobile sim in less than 15 mins. Appreciate it buddy!

  • Shobhit

    Thanks very much Simon.
I had a unlocked & jailbreaked v1.1.2 2G iphone, I used restore using iTunes 8.0.2. The iphone firmware was upgraded to 2.2.1, however the phone was locked (did not recognize my carrier).
I used the above process and within half hour my iPhone is up a running, with no issues at all and with the latest firmware version 2.2.1 and softwares (App store etc)…
Also, my contacts, photos (taken from iPhone) are all restored using the standard functionality of iTunes.

  • Raj

    Great Steps and explanation !!
    Worked Great !!
Now I’ve succussfully upgraded from 1.1.4 to 2.2.1
    Thanks for everything !

  • Jeannie

I ran through the entire process and it said it was successful. But now when I plug my iphone into itunes it says that the sim is not supported. On my phone itself, it shows the network as Tmobile and it shows that I have a voicemail, but it’s at the Emergency call screen and I can’t get it off of there. Someone help please!

  • Raj

    Hi Jeannie..

Try to do the steps 7 through 15 and make sure @ every step process matches as shown in the screen shots and messages. Sometimes things might go wrong @ step 13 if not alert.

  • Kevin

worked like a charm, was a little scared, but followed directions and made it thru

  • zobi

Im getting an error 1403 PLz help Simon.im not able to update to 2.2 on 2G!plz help.

  • zobi, not sure what the 1403 is. But whenever mine went bad i would relax, go back and erase everything, start over, follow the step to the t, download all the stuff again. And everything would always work out. BTW leave the sim in. Let us know how it goes. In Simon we trust.

  • ConorD

Did the process, it worked perfectly fine but now when I sync with iTunes it’s saying that my software is too old and I need to create a “New iPhone” before restoring my data. When in Settings-General-About it says I’m on Version 2.1

    Wondering what I did wrong.

Perfectly well explained. God bless you . :o)))) .. THANKSSSSS

  • zobi

JEDDDD , i tried directly updating from 1.1.4 to 2.2.1? is there any harm i mean i keep getting d error in itunes on restoring”An unknown error occurred(1403)! should i first put it on to 2.2? what say?

  • @zobi, for 1403 error, that means the IPSW is corrupted. Please download the firmware file again.

  • zobi, to tell ya the truth i had problems with 2.2.1 so i dropped back to 2.2 and everything has been fine. And like Simon says, re download everything make sure the number match and give it another go. P.S. Hey Simon can we get a page break or something? Scrolling all the way done here on my iPhone is no fun.

  • kerz562k

  • yhn

Hi, I am in a bit of trouble. I am trying to unlock the iphone 2g but have just downloaded itunes 8.1 today. Now I don’t know how to get past the first step as it asks me whether I have an AT&T account or make a new account. I am with Tmobile. Please advise!

    • @yhn, did you follow the instructions from step 1 of this guide? After you complete the whole process, your iPhone will be activated automatically.

  • VeryImpressed

Thanks Simon. You are a ROCK STAR!! Worked like a charm.

  • Thanks Simon. I had bricked my iPhone while trying to unlock on mac. These windows instructions helped especially the link to bootloaders. Thanks again!

TO MY MAN AARON, IM SO GLAD I TOOK THE TIME TO READ YOUR POSTS. to anyone who wants T-MOBILE ON THEIR IPHONE, AARON figured this stuff out. it took me 3 1/2 hours to get this stuff done, thanks again bro, and thanks SIMON for the entire thread.

  • Marcus

Hello Simon I followed all the steps to jailbreak my phone. When I load up the quckpwn, it say please connect device via USB to continue. The device is already connected. I tried reconnecting it but it will not reconize that it is connected. I am stuck at this point I cant go any further with the process.

  • Dario

I am tech-savvy but this is my first iPhone unlock/jailbreak and it worked perfectly. Went from 1.1.3 unlocked/jailbroken to 2.2.1 unlocked/jailbroken. Just need to follow the instructions CAREFULLY and follow Darwin’s special instructions in commeNt #400 above. Note that, in step 10, you must explicitly click the “Unlock phone” checkbox – it is not pre-selected. And to be safe, connect the iPhone directly to a motherboard USB port, not to a downstream USB hub. REMEMBER TO DO AN INITIAL BACKUP IN ITUNES OF IPHONE-SPECIFIC DATA THAT IS NOT STORED ELSEWHERE (PHONE NUMBERS, NOTES, ADDRESSES, PICTURES, ETC.) BEFORE YOU START – I didn’t and I lost all that data.

  • Praveen

I have seen many guides and your’s is the best of all. Simple steps, screen shots and links to software. All in one page. Thanks

Looking forward to firmware 3.0 steps when released 🙂

It could detect my provider etc…
But i still can’t open 3rd party applications, it can be installed, but when i tried to open it there’s always “the application “****” cannot be opened”

is that means that my iphone only got unlocked, but not jailbroken ?

  • Johny

No.. I mean in cydia i installed installous, then install 3rd party application / games

haven’t tried to install from appstore… will do it now… tell u soon bout the result

  • Johny

    hi simon..

    it works !!!!

The solution is: u have to install at least 1 application downloaded from applestore, to make other cracked application to work…

What Happens to me is :
I follow all the steps above, installing firmware 2.2.1, then in cydia i install mobileinstallation, and install installous
then after i download & install few application from installous, it always says the application cannot be opened.

    The Solution is:
install any free application downloaded from applestore, then afterwards open the application, suddenly the screen went white, and looks like the iphone is hang…. then i try to hard reset, and after it reload….. viola….. all the programs include the cracked application now can be opened..

Thanks a lot Simon… i found ur last comments to be so useful…

Simon – Many many thanks to you and the dev team for making this such an easy process. The QuickPwn step by step instructions is wonderfully clear with great UI. Thanks again. I am just restoring my phone and hopefully this last bit will go as smoothly as the rest of the process did.

  • jason

It worked excellent..but I am wondering how to tell that the phone is indeed actually unlocked.. it says that my carrier is still AT&T 3.1.. does that mean that my phone indeed isn’t actually jailbroke?
    it’s a 1st gen iphone w/ 2.2.1

    • @jason, if you have completed the whole process, your iPhone should be jailbroken. Do you see the Cydia and Installer icons on the home screen?

But after stumbling upon your guide, it didn’t take long for me to change my mind and I’m already on 2.2. Everything went very smoothly and I’ve got all my data back from the restore after the update! Thanks again!

    Hello Simon
First a big thanks for making all these efforts to make people able to enjoy thier iPhone. Also I must say you have a true gift for explaining difficult tech problems so that even newbies like me understand. Keep it up.
I was all ready to upgrade form 1.1.4 to 2.2, downloaded all the software, re- read your guide 5 times, ect, ect. My problem however came right at the beginning: the iTunes 8.0.2 does not install properly on my Vista 64-bit machine! Therefore it won’t recognize my iPhone so I can’t even complete Step 3. Pathetic I know but as I said I’m new at this. Can you please help……
    Thanks a lot

    Dear Simon
You need not answer my previous post (although it might be useful for some) because after posting I thought I’d try your tutorial on my old laptop with XP and NET. Copied all the software, followed your directions and Voila! 20 min and I’ve got a 2.2 iPhone. I can’t believe how something I dreaded so much turned out to be so easy. Really one of the best IT experience I’ve had in a long long time and all because of your excellent pedagogical skills. Thanks a LOT! And keep up the good work

Tried steps 1-15 twice. My iPhone is upgraded to 2.2 but there is no NETWORK and CARRIER.

    It shows the following:

    Network Not Available
    Carrier (null) (null)
    Version 2.2 (5G77)
    Modem Fireware 04.05.04_G

Can anybody help to resolve this problem?

    I am desperately need help.

  • AF

I managed to upgrade to 2.2 finally after 7 attempts.
It appears the error was due to BL-39.bin not downloaded properly.
This was after reading the comments by AL (see #516) who had the same problem, and seeing an error msg, “Unable to detect BL-39.bin” in the earlier attempts. My iPhone is working fine now.

Many thanks for the easy to follow step by step procedure. Keep up the good work.

  • Stretch

Started this process about 1pm… this is my first iphone so i was not familiar with any of this firmware type stuff. Firstly, I tried “Upgrade & unlock iPhone from 1.1.4 to 2.0 using WinPwn (for Windows)” everything was going smoothly until itunes couldnt connect with my iphone it would say error 1600 i tried over 10 times. so i then decided to restore the orginal setting which was stupid because my phone was basically locked and i only was able to make emergency calls and it had the ipod logo and usb. I was hurt i was feeling like i should of never did this sh*t now i cant use my phone @ all. i saw then saw ppl was having the exact same problem and big simon was telling ppl to try this upgrade out!! I read Demis Benjamin was going threw the same as me… but I finally pulled it off!!! Im so happy lol this was so helpful Simon i appreciate the tutorials and you getting back to most ppls questions!! thats something you dont have to do but i wish you 1000 years of success and whatever you do im feeling good right now!!! thank you!!!

  • jessie h.

Thanks, u made the life easy.

  • Wes

I am running software version 2.2.1 on my iphone (I found that by clicking my iphone on itunes) I hold shift and click restore. Then I click the restore (And yes im using Firmware 2.2.1 and Qwkpwn 2.2.5-2) And then it starts to do the software. However, whenever it restarts my phone I have the itunes usb imae and i start up Quickpwn and it says to hold the power and home button and i do, then i turn it back on and nothing happens. Simon Help.

I’ve got everything downloaded into one folder on my desktop and I’ve unzipped QwckPwn with in that folder. Also have itunes 8.0.2 loaded.

But when I hook up my new out of the box iphone and boot itunes and then click on my iphone under devices on the left, the window that I see on the right says, “Let’s Get Started” Authenticate iphone with AT&T.

This window does not have the format of the window you show in your instructions whereby there is a Update and a Restore button option.

I don’t want to continue with the [email protected] authentification for fear of messing things up.

    Please advise.

    • @Dane, you can pull out the AT&T sim and replace it with other carrier sim card. You should be able to go through the steps smoothly.

  • Dane Wayne

P.S.. I have 2g 8G iphone that I want to make totally free of ATT and allow third party apps and have the bug free firware and tmobile fix.

  • humble

Thanks for the great step by step procedure!

For those who are having trouble with QuickPwn being stuck on “Wait for your phone to enter in Recovery mode.” Try the following:

On your computer to go services (do help on services if you dont know where it is on your pc) and make sure the following things are started

    1. Telnet
    2. Messenger
    3. Telnet Services
    4. Microsoft .Net Framework

    that should help

  • Srini

Hello. itunes 8.0.2 is no longer available on the link that you posted. Is it okay to upgrade to itunes 8.1 or is there somewhere else that I can find it?

  • AB

  • waynej

works great a big thank you a awesome post

  • Ram

HEY AB where did you find itunes8.0.2, i’m having the same problem. Is it okay to upgrade to itunes 8.1?

    • @Ram, it’s ok to use iTunes 8.1 for the upgrade.

  • Nigel

Have upgraded to 2.2 some months ago…when I sync with i-tunes there appears to be some “space” that is unaccounted for….in the upgrade process are there files left on the i-phone that dont get cleaned up? – how can I get my disk space back on the upgraded i-phone?

    • @Nigel, you need to perform a full restore of the firmware to re-claim the space. Every time you perform an upgrade on iPhone. You’ll lose some of the spaces. So, I suggest when you’re going to upgrade to the next version. Perform a “restore” instead of “upgrade”.

  • Asha

simon thanks a lot. u saved my colleagues life.. hehe she was having exams in the middle while her phone crashed while trying a 2.2 upgrade on itune. ur instructions brought her smile back. thasnks a lot

    Excellent, I had 1.1.4 1st Generation.
Was worried to handle the upgrade, The above process is perfect & I just did it. successful, & it is flashing BASEBAND.

    It is perfect

  • Asha

simon how cud i restore notes.

  • Nigel Haywood

Thanks – so all I do now is hit restore in i-tunes and it will restore 2.2 so I can save some space now? – or will it restore back to 1.0.2 (my original firmware)?
Your site is an awesome source of advice for the iphone community…..keep it up!!

  • jahir

I have upgraded my unlocked 1.1.4 iphone to 2.2.1 using these procedure.. but now i cannot load any video file by itunes..my iphone doesnot detect the video file..can anyone help please..

But i must tell you and others who are confused to go ahead or not…..guys this one is cooooooooooooooooool you don’t have to do any thing…just go step by step…and feel like you are the iphone engineer.

It was as easy as installing itunes in pc.

  • Ankit

    Hey Simon, how are you?
Dude i have query for you…
can i use the Quickpwn above mentioned for jailbreaking Ipod Touch 2.2 ??

    • @Ankit, for jailbreaking of iPod Touch, I suggest you follow iClarified’s jailbreak guide. You can check out the guide here.

  • Sam

If you get the error – quickpwn tells me the connection failed cause i either didn’t follow instructions or have a failed usb…than you are most probally pressing the HOME key on hyour keyboard and not the one on the iPhone.

  • puneet

i just upgraded my phone 2g earlier i use to fowrward sms is there anyn app throung which we send forwarded sms.
    plz helf fast.:)))))))))))

    • @puneet, you can try BiteSMS from Cydia that allows you to forward SMS.

  • Prabahar A

Simon, I have some problem with my device. My device have jailbreak iPhone OS 2.2.1. When i try to debug my application into device it shows me a error message as ” CodeSign error: a valid provisioning profile is required for product type ‘Application’ in SDK Device- ‘iPhone OS 2.2’. ” But i have a valid provisioning profile.

Please advice me how can i resolve this issue.

  • John

I seemed to have successfully gone thru the entire process and in the end, everything rebooted and it was a success. However, when I put a Tmobile SIM, the home screen says “Different SIM detected. Please connect to iTunes”. iTunes (ver reads “SIM card inserted in the iPhone does not appear to be inserted”. In QuickPwn, I checked all 3 boxes “Add Cydia”, “Add Installer”, “Unlock Phone”. The only one I didn’t checked was “Replace boot logos”. I guess I’ll try an older version of iTunes (?) and then perhaps repeat these steps again…. Has anyone else seen this?

  • John

I put the TMobile SIM in, put the phone into DFU mode and then doing a restore again. Problem solved! Initially, I had a put an inactive AT&T sim which gave me the “Restore” option in iTunes w/o going into DFU.

  • Geoff

    Hi Simon

I have the same problem as Alexandra Bradford above except I am on Virgin not Orange. So, I have a Virgin network signal but the phone only shows the emergency calls screen and wont let me slide to open menu. When connected to iTunes it says “sim not supported”.

I have run the software three times, the last time I just ran it with the unlock section ticked and Boot Neuter report Fake Blank OFF but Unlock ON is that correct?

On completion I still get a message that says Different SIM detected, please connect to iTunes.

I connect to iTunes and cannot sync and the message The SIM card iserted in this iPhone does not appear to be supported (etc.)

HOWEVER, if I slide the bar across the screen and insert a number and ring it (even though it says emergency numbers only) it rings the line I entered. I can also call back to the phone as well. So it seems it is jailbroken and unlocked but the phone still thinks it is not and prevents me getting to the home desktop.

Any ideas on what I should do?

  • GI

Hello, I just upgrade my 2G iphone to 2.2.1. Everything works out great except the WI-FI Internet. I’m not a internet subscriber with the phone company but I have been using the internet router from my home.
It worked fine before the upgrade and now it says “unable to join”
    Please help me !!

Plus, I did sync back backup data with iTunes after I finished the upgrade, but I lost all my contacts as well. I guess this is no major probms compare to the Wi -fi issue. FEEDBACK PLEASE!!

    Hi Simon,

I need to upgrade my iphone 2G from 1.1.4 to the latest 2.2.1.. i have downloaded all the 4 files as mentioned in your blog. I have few queries..

    1. which iTunes verison do you suggest to use for upgrading from 1.1.4 jailbroken+unlocked iphone 2G to 2.2.1 ?

    iTunes 8.2.0 (32-bit)
    iTunes 8.1.1 (32-bit)
    iTunes OR
    iTunes ???

    2. before using quickpwn i need to backup using the Itunes version installed ( from above list ) and i should NOT hit restore from iTunes for auto restore rather i should use shift + restore and select the .ipsw file downloaded from your site… Am i correct ??? please confirm.

    • @Asif,

      1. Both 8.1 and 8.02 are ok for jailbreak. Just to avoid the use of iTunes 8.2
      2. Perfectly correct.

      • Asif

any version of iTunes 8.1 ? or anyspecific version you suggest among
        iTunes 8.1.1 (32-bit)
        iTunes ??

        • @Asif, I think all 8.1 versions are fine.

  • Asif

Also, as the new iphone is out in market with firmware 3.0 do you suggest to wait and upgrade directly to the lastest 3.0 from 1.1.4 (for iphone 2G) or shall i go ahead and upgrade to 2.2.1 first and then later can look for upgrade to 3.0 firmware. ???? Please suggest.

  • Victor

Simon, thanks for the guidance, and I managed to jailbreaked and unlocked my iphone from 1.1.4 to 2.2 (OTB is 1.1.2). However at the moment, the phone keypad is not working (i.e the phone icon is frozen), so basically I could not make outgoing call (but can still receive incoming call) – I have checked throught the comments to see if others have the same problem, and indeed a couple out there had similar issues. Unfortunately I still could not locate the answer to solve this issue – anyone out there can shed some light to rectify this ‘phone icon’/dialling issue?

    Many thanks, Victor

    • Victor

Well, I managed to solve it – just remove the ‘Kate’ application
Hope this helps for others having the same issue

  • Kelly

    Hi Simon,
I tried downloading the older versions of itunes, but when I open it, it tells me that “Itunes library.itf cannot be read because of newer version”….what do I do?

I have also previously had my iphone jailbroken/unlocked, but yesterday I was trying to upgrade the firmware to the most recent one and I tried through itunes, my phone completely rebooted and it isn’t jailbroken or unlocked any longer (i think it is currently updated with the most recent firmware, that’s why it isn’t jailbroken/unlocked anymore) How do I fix this??

I did infact download the newer version of itunes and when i plug in my phone… it asks me to authorize my phone and activate it, but i click cancel and it won’t take me to that option or “Restore”…..

    please help me!!

  • YaNie

    Hi Simon,

Ive been trying to upgrade my 2G iphone from 1.1.4 to 2.2 since yesterday but still unsuccessful. It stuck at step 13. It keeps on processing for recovery mode and never went to the next step.

Anyone has any tips on this problem? Please share and please help me Simon. I cant use my phone anymore.

Btw, Ive tries using iTunes 8.0.2 and 8.0.20. I’m using Vista.

    Thanks a bunch!

  • Yanie

    Hi again Simon,

Guess wat!!! I DID IT!! Thanks so much and just for the rest to know. I can’t use VISTA to do this but i have to use XP.

So if anyone encountered the same prob as mine. Try to use XP instead of VISTA and it works!!!

Thanks and cant wait for the 3.0!!!

Take care simon and do update us on the latest news 😉

  • Hansen

    Hi Simon.
    Some questions:
    1. Can i use this tutorial to upgrude from firmware 1.1.1?
    2. Am i surposed to take my SIM-card out of my iPhone doing the update/unlock/jailbreak?

    • @Hansen, sure. This guide also applies to firmware 1.1.1 and you should keep your SIM-card during unlock & jailbreak.

  • Rishi

    Hey Simon

    Hi Simon!
I’ve got sucked on step #3 when I simply can’t find the files *.ipsw to use restore iphone by itunes. The downloaded files come with the zip extension but after using the winrar i cannot find any file with the ipsw extension.
Txs in advance for your help.

    • Charles. C

      Hey there, was wondering if:
      1. You are using Mac?
      2. Or, if you download those firmware from this site? If you suspect the
.zip problem has got to do with this then try downloading from

      Hope this helps.

    • @Paulo, try to download the IPSW file using Firefox. Some browsers recognize the .ipsw file as zipped file and automatically extract it after download. That’s why you can’t find any file with .ipsw extension.

  • Charles. C

    Hi from Malaysia!

Hey Simon, just wanna say “THANK YOU” for the detailed howto, never failed once with your guide as well as the downloads that you put here. I had the very 1st gen iPhone 4GB way before Apple phased out that one. I have always worried that mine can’t accept new firmwares but apparently I was pleasantly wrong. Thanks again!

  • Asif Aslam

    Hey all,

I have a 1 year old iPhone 2G which was unlocked and jailbroke with ZiPhone for 1.1.4 OS in March 2008. I updated the phone directly to the latest 2.2.1 OS using iTunes 8.2 (SHIFT+Restore) and Quickpwn 2.2.5-2. Everything went absolutely fine although it took my sweet 1 hour for the whole process. Trust me if it works for me, it will work for everyone!! I feel like i carry a brand new iPhone now!!!!

  • Tracy

Can I use this jailbreak on my Iphone 2G 3.0 Edge? I am having a hard time trying to find the how to for my type of phone. Thank you

    • @Tracy, this guide is for firmware 2.2. For iPhone 3.0, I’ll post the update in these two days. Do come back and check it out later.

  • coby

hey, i just go a new 2g iphone from apple (my old one broke)…. i don’t have at AT&T sim card.. so itunes is not recognizing my phone… i tried to unlock/jail break it but it says the following:
“The IPSW file you selected (iPhone,1_2.2.1) does not match the firmware version of your device (iPhone1,1_2.2). Please note that QuickPwn does no upgrade your firmware, it only jailbreaks whatever firmware you currently have on your device.”
I don’t understand this because I am selecting the file iPhone1,1_2.2_5G77_Restore.ipsw, which is 2.2, not 2.2.1
    Can someone help me please?

    Love you SIMON!

I did successfully upgraded my 1.1.4 to 2.2.1 using the steps explained by you. There were two hickups which I would like to document for benefit of other users.

Note: I was skeptical about using itunes 8.x, so uninstalled it, removed the .itl file from my My Documents, and installed 7.7

I downloaded everything, restored 2.2.1 through iTunes and started quickpwn

    problem 1:
Started getting error on quickpwn saying “The IPSW file you selected does not match the firmware version of your device “. I had all the right files and everything but still it did not work (as posted by other users recently on this forum).
However I restarted itunes and quickpwn 2-3 times, sometimes together, sometimes individually. Next time I used quickpwn, it could identify the file!!.
    It can be either
    1. Some offline/asynch process in itunes which registers the phone version on computer, which took time
    2. Or may be loading a 200+ MB file on XP was not fast enough as quickpwn wanted
    But it worked.

Quickpwn started to hang at “Wait for your iPhone to connect in Recovery Mode”, again as mentioned by some users.
Found to SIMON’s suggestion at http://www.simonblog.com/2009/01/14/iphone-jailbreak-possible-solutions-for-quickpwn-hang-issue/
Some of those services on my machine (XP) were disabled/off, started them manually.

++ It still did not work ++

I realized how overconfident I was. I did NOT have .Net framework 3.5 installed on my machine. I thought Auto-update must have done it already. It did not. So went to MS site, downloaded and installed 3.5

++ It still did not work ++

Now I realized I was not only overconfident, but was also dumb! I had to restart the machine, so all the services/processes I started in earlier step manually need to be restarted again

Did it, and cream pie, butter chicken, malai kofta!

Pawned, synchronized with older contacts and everything and I have a new phone!

  • Facet

Simon–you do wonderful work. I’ve just updated to 2.2 (for 2G) without any hitch. I held off on updating to 3.0 firmware because it seems the jailbreak/unlock process doesn’t work with Vista–have there been any updates that address this issue?

    thanks loads

    • @Facet, redsn0w should work with Vista. I have used it to upgrade my wife’s iPhone 2G to iPhone 3.0. Give this guide a shot!

  • Naigil

Thanks a lot Simon for spending your time to help all of us. Really appreciate your great work !!!
Everything worked for me except in 2 steps… step 9 (after i restarted the quickpwn.exe it worked) and step 13 (i followed your suggestions of enabling the messenger, telnet and terminal services and it worked fine)

Simon, you are a legend!! I’d thought about buying a 3G so I could use more apps as my 2G was stuck on 1.1.4. Decided to give it a go myself, and it worked first time within 30 minutes. Thank you so much – a new world has opened up on my iPhone !!!

    • @John, thanks! iPhone 3.0 has been released. So, you may consider to further upgrade your iPhone.

  • christos

Simon i would like to ask if this guide that you propose Complete Guide: Jailbreak iPhone 3.0 using Redsn0w for iPhone 2G & 3G is it unlock too? or will lock my iphone to a certain mobile provider?

    • @christos, are you using iPhone 2G or 3G? For iPhone 2G, you can refer to the latest guide and use redsn0w to unlock. If you’re using iPhone 3G, you can check out this guide and use redsn0w & ultrasn0w for the unlock.

everthing works fine, but after everything is selected in quickpwn as you said and when i click the next button after it reconfirms that whether the iphone is connected or not…it just shows “Wait for ur iphone to connect in recovery mode” in bold letters and nothing happens…the phone does not go into recovery mode….

    Hi Simon,

Once again I upgaded iphone from firmware 2.2 to 2.2.1 successfuly.

    Thanks dude….You rock!!!

Is it possible for you to develope some application through which we can reset our Iphone passcode.

Actually I forgot my passcode and after several tries Iphone was disabled and prompt to connect to Iphone. After google, option I left here here was to restore. So It will be great help for Iphoneians if you can share some 3rd party tool through which we can just reset our iphone psscode without going for restore option.

Error: “iphone is disabled connect to itunes”
Solution as of now : Restore

Start QuickPwn exe and select firmware file.

    Hi Simon,
You really saved my iphone. I lost complete hopes on it at one point because I upgraded my 1.1.4 2g to 3.0. There was some problem with redsn0w software. Then I found your guide and just followed all the steps. Now I am in 2.2. Only one thing is how can I get back all my music since I made a copy of Itunes library in my external disk? Now I have itunes 8.0.2 version. Please help me in this ..

    Thanks again
