It’s true. Earlier, I have wrote about a rumor about the release of iPhone firmware 2.2 on Nov 21. Now, firmware 2.2 is here and available for download now using iTunes.
This firmware update is big and comes with even more features that we expect. Most of the speculated features that have been heard of are incorporated in this release. And, here is the feature summary of this release:
- Google Street view in Google Maps – More details can be found here
- Podcast Download directly via Wifi or 3G network – That’s awesome. You do not need to sync with iTunes just to get Podcast
- Public transit and walking directions in Google Maps – More details can be found here
- Drop a pin in Google Maps enhanced – Now display the address of a place for dropped pin
- Share location via email
- Option to turn on/off keyboard auto-correction feature
- Enhanced Home button – Press the Home button from any Home screen will you back to the first Home screen. You have more than five pages of applications. This little improvement will be huge for you.
- A decrease in call failures/dropped-calls – This one is particularly for iPhone 3G
- Bug fixes for email – Resolved issues with scheduled fetching of email & Improved formatting for wide HTML email
- Google Search bar of Safari – Now a dedicated Google Search box is available in Safari
- Improved stability and performance of Safari
Dear Jailbreak user, please hold off. I know the update is great. And, you probably can’t wait to upgrade your iPhone. But as I mentioned in earlier post, QuickPwn and PwnageTool are not ready to jailbreak & unlock firmware 2.2. So, stay tuned and I’ll give you more update about jailbreak in upcoming post.

Can we update 2G v1.1.4 to 2G v2.2 directly

Atif, please check out this guide for iPhone firmware 2.2 upgrade. You’ll need to use QuickPwn instead of WinPwn.
but is it possible to upgrade from v1.1.4 to 2.2. Or i have to upgrade to 2.0 and then after that then i can upgrade to 2.2.
The only problem is just wanna know if it can upgrade from 1.1.4 to 2.2
Atif, no problem. You can upgrade directly from 1.1.4 to 2.2.
I have done everything to get past step 10 of jailbreaking my iphone 3g. It freezes up at that point in recovery mode. I have made sure my PC (windows vista) has administrative tools are started like they suggest (Remote Procedure Call (RPC) Terminal Services) I downloaded frameworks as well as suggested, I’ve unplugged and plugged back in USB cord, I tried all suggestion and I cannot get this damn thing to jailbreak. I bought the phone in 11/08. any suggestions.
