iPhone Jailbreak Issues: Possible Solution for T-Mobile User

by Simon Ng on November 21, 2008

I have received quite a number of comments and email from T-mobile users about jailbreak issues when they’re trying to jailbreak iPhone firmware 2.1 with QuickPwn.

Issues reported include:

  • Not able to get past the emergency call screen
  • Have a tmobile carrier in the upper left corner with full bars
  • Only see the emergency call screen

It seems the above issues are particularly for T-mobile iPhones. For other SIMs, I seldom heard of the problems. Thanks, Guy Wire who pointed us to a possible solution for these T-mobile issues on Jailbreak. Quoted from the source, here is the suggested fix:

-Using Itunes 8 download the 2.1 restore file, or you can dl it from a third party as long as it is the correct file.
-Next uninstall Itunes 8
-Next install Itunes 7.7.1.11
-Next locate the iTunes Library.itl file and DELETE IT (other wise Itunes 7 will not open)
-Next INSERT YOUR TMOBILE SIM before doing the restore
-Next restore your firmware to 2.1 in the manner shown in the quickpwn instructions
-Next continue to follow the quickpwn instructions exactly

As the author pointed out, you may not need to downgrade iTunes. The point here is you should INSERT YOUR T-MOBILE SIM before doing any firmware restore.

As I’m not a T-mobile user, I cannot test out the solution. If you have tried the above solution, please leave comment and share with us your result. This would be great for others who are still stuck with these issues.

Hello. I have an unlocked and jailbroken iPhone running firmware version 2.0.2. I want to upgrade to firmware version 2.1.x using QuickPWN 2.1 since it seems to be the only windows-based program to jailbreak a phone running that firmware version but I don’t know if the phone will remain unlocked after running QP after upgrading the firmware with iTunes. What is the procedure to end up with an unlocked and jailbroken iPhone running firmware version 2.1.x?

One way to get internet service with -Mobile is to go to the website listed below and where it says look up your phone look up LG KE970 Shine,
then you choose what settings you need, MMS, internet or email :
Then you fill in your cell phone number
they send the settings directly to your phone.
I have done it several times it works great.
You do need to sign up for the internet services with T-Mobile, you can do that on-line on their sight.
Iam not sure why the LG works but it does.

I have a Iphone 2G jailbroken & unlocked on the USA T-Mobile network with T-zone. (Just sign up online for the T-Zone services, only $6 !!) Internet works now, slow however.

Initially, I used the jailbrake & unlock tools for the Mac, but could not get that working, so I followed the Windows instructions as stated on this website, within 10 minutes everything was working. I’m preparing now for the firmware 2.2 upgrade, jailbrake and unlock.

Lori, do you have an unlocked 3G Iphone, because I did not heard of anybody unlocking an 3G Iphone with these tools. Unless I’m mistaken.

I have a 2g iphone and am about to unlock and jailbreak it.
Do I put the t-mobile sim in before I start this process?

Is it ok to upgrade to firmware 2.2 using t-mobile?

Thanks Malcolm

My son wants to buy the new iPhone and use it on T-mobile, jailbreaking it. He currently has the Sidekick package w/ internet, email, etc. Will it work? Anything we should know in advance for what to do or not do? Are there services to help if he jailbreaks it and has problems?

Thanks
