iDicto – Voice Recorder for iPhone

by Simon Ng on October 25, 2008

You can take photos using iPhone camera and you can capture video using Cycorder. And, probably you still find something missing on iPhone. What about a voice recording on iPhone?

Dava Consulting has just released iDicto Recorder 2.0. iDicto provides an easy and intuitive way for you to record sound and voice on iPhone. Each voice recording is organized by date, time and length. And you can easily assign a name for each recording. Recording time is unlimited as long as you get enough disk space on your iPhone. Sound quality can meet the general standard. From my experience, however, the recording volume is a little bit low when the sound source is not directly pointed to the iPhone speaker. So, point your iPhone speaker to the sound source while recording to get a better sound quality.

iDicto supports adjustable recording quality (Low/Good/Best) and both AIFF & CAF format. It also allows you to transfer your recording back to computer via WiFi.

How to download voice file from iPhone

File transfer is quite intuitive that you click on the sync button (the one next to red recording button). iDicto will show the URL you can connect to. Point your browser to that URL prepared by iDicto and you can download the sound file.

Bonjour Support for Easy Download

iDicto supports Bonjour to ease file transfer. So, if you’re Safari user, click “Bookmarks” -> “Show all bookmarks” and select “Bonjour”. You’ll find your iPhone on the list. Double-click it and go directly to download the sound file.

Not need to jailbreak… iDicto is available on App Store

iDicto works on all iPhone and does not require you jailbreak. It is available through Apple’s App Store and just costs USD$0.99. If you need to take voice memo or enable your iPhone to record voice on-the-go, it’s worth to pay that dollar. You can download iDicto directly from here.

As always, I welcome you to leave comment and share your experience on iDicto and iPhone voice recording.

Hi Simon
really appreciate your iDicto help section. My problem is that I can’t work out how to download the file – do I need QuickTime7 for that? I took all the steps you mentioned, all worked fine, but when I press ‘Dowload’ I can’t tell where the file goes into my iMac.
Thanks v much
Jeremy

What I did was use Bonjour to find the file. On the left side where the file name is you should be able to right click the name and download the like. It worked fine for me. I transfered an hour long recording that was 40+ MBs in a matter of seconds! Amazing help section!
