Last time, I covered the whole process to jailbreak & unlock iPhone 2.1 using Pwnage Tool (for Mac). Here comes to the complete guide for Windows users. This guide is designed for:
1. Those who own iPhone and planning for jailbreak & unlock (If you do not what Jailbreak & Unlock are, check out my post of “Why Jailbreak?“)
2. Those who already have jailbreak iPhone and would like to upgrade to firmware 2.1
To tackle firmware 2.1 on Windows, we’ll use QuickPwn 2.1 to perform jailbreak and unlock for your iPhone. Developed by iPhone Dev Team, QuickPwn is, by far, the easiest tool to jailbreak iPhone. The whole jailbreak & unlock process is similar to install an application on your desktop.
Update: Now, you can refer to the latest jailbreak guide to upgrade to iPhone 3.0.
Preparation for Jailbreak & Unlock
1. First, make sure you have upgraded to iTunes version 8.0/8.01 and backup your iPhone data by synchronizing it with iTunes.
Tip: You can download older version of iTunes here if Apple already releases a newer version of iTunes at the time you’re reading this post.
2. Download QuickPwn 2.1, Bootloader 3.9 & 4.6 and iPhone firmware 2.1. Save them all in the same folder. And unzip QuickPwn21-1.zip. So make sure you have all the files in place before continue.

Installing iPhone Firmware 2.1 via iTunes
3. Next, connect your iPhone to your computer via USB cable and launch iTunes. Select your iPhone in iTunes.

4. Okay, now hold the SHIFT key and click the “Restore” button. iTunes will launch a file dialog for you to select the firmware file. Locate the “iPhone1,1_2.1_5F136_Restore.ipsw” you have downloaded in previous step and click “Open”.

5. iTunes will then restore your iPhone with firmware 2.1. Keep your iPhone connected, don’t touch it and wait until the process completes.

Jailbreak & Unlock with QuickPwn
6. Now, your iPhone should completely restore to firmware 2.1. But it’s locked right now.

7. Launch QuickPwn 2.1 to start jailbreak & unlock.

8. Ensure you have the iPhone connected and then click blue button to continue.

9. Next, you are required to provide the firmware 2.1 IPSW file. Click “Browse” button to locate it.

10. You can then configure the settings for QuickPwn. Normally, you can check all checkboxes (i.e. Add Cydia, add installer, Replace boot logo & unlock iPhone). But if you do not keep the Apple logo, left “Replace boot logo” unchecked. Click blue arrow button to continue.

11. Next, locate the bootloader 3.9 and 4.6 files that you have downloaded by clicking “Browse” button. Once complete, QuickPwn will verify the files and show a big tick if they are correct. Then click blue arrow button to continue.

12. Your iPhone should still be connected with USB cable. QuickPwn requests you to confirm it once again as the Jailbreak process will begin. If you’re ready, click blue arrow button to continue.

13. Now, QuickPwn starts to jailbreak and unlock your iPhone. It automatically puts the iPhone into recovery mode. After that, you’ll be asked to hold Home button for 5 seconds. Then hold Home and Power buttons together for 10 seconds. Next, release Power button and continue to hold Home button until your iPhone is in DFU mode (QuickPwn will prompt you when you’re in DFU mode, just follow what QuickPwn says).

14. While jailbreaking, your iPhone will show downloading jailbreak data, flashing NOR, etc. And, just don’t touch your iPhone and keep waiting.

15. Once completed, QuickPwn will let you know the jailbreak process is successful. Your iPhone will be restarted and automatically launch BootNeuter to perform unlock. This process will take 3-5 minutes to complete. Be patient. When complete, your iPhone will be rebooted.

16. Congratulation, you now complete the jailbreak process with iPhone firmware 2.1. Lastly, sync back your backup data with iTunes.

As always, leave me message and share your jailbreak experience.

Neato! This is perfect!
I did exactly whats mentioned in this post. Though I followed your other post where I wrote a comment about the possible iissing step to be fw restore through iTunes 8.
After that upgrade went kool! And like the fw 2.0 upgrade, I am posting this comment from my iPhone rejuvenated to fw 2.1
Simon, many thanks for all the hardwork you put in these posts!
AJ
Thanks, just unlocked my Iphone.
Works great so far. ^_^
Nice work to all who contributed this.
I am on 2.1 now – without any problem what so ever.
Hello Simon,
I did your post on the other upgrade (1.1.4 to 2.0) for windows using quickpwn. I was able to fully unlock my iphone with 2.0 firmware. It worked like a charm. So i was thinking, can i upgrade my unlocked 2.0 firmware to this 2.1 unlocked firmware? And if i upgrade to a regular 2.1 firmware, wouldn’t that brick my phone? Thanks in advance.
im a complete tekky noob but i followed everything to a T and it worked!!
upgraded and unlocked my 1.1.4 1G iphone to 2.1!!!
must point out that step 16 takes aaages (bout an hour)
but worth it though
many thanks simon
Marvelous,
Sure, you can upgrade to 2.1 using the procedures mentioned in this post. That what I have done on my iPhone.
Simon,
Do you have a solution to unlock a 3g iPhone? I have it jailbroken but I need to unlock it for international travel to accept other sims.
Thanks!
Judson, currently there is no way to unlock iPhone 3G. I’ll keep track with the potential solutions. Once there is a solution, I’ll post it on my blog.
thanks a million simon! It worked perfectly.
Thanks for the great guide…. worked perfectly.. I used a previous guide of yours when I upgraded 1.1.4 to 2.0.1. now upgraded to 2.1 using this guide with no problems.. Thanks
UPDATE: hold fire guys!
I’m now having problems with a very intermittent wifi connection at home. used to connect perfectly on 1.1.4 but now its very sporadic.
The phone sees my network, connects for a few seconds, and then disconnects…
I’ve tried everything from resetting network settings/passwords/security settings to upgrading the firmware on my wag354G linksys router. NOTHING!!!
Trawling through the internet, it seems like its a common problem with 2.1.
might be a ‘baseband’ issue?
I’m eagerly waiting a fix now
any ideas??
hi simon, great site. so i have decided to jailbreak my phone and have all the files. However, the “…restore.ipsw” file is zipped when I downloaded it from the site. And when I go to iTunes to open this file, it doesn’t recognize it. Thanks for any help in advance.
hi simon,
may i ask if i upgrade to 2.1 version, does it mean that the phone will be in reset mode again? im running on a 2.0.2… reason wanna upgrade is becos of wedict… as it only support 2.1 version and up…
Hi Simon
I was able to upgrade successfully…
How do u change setting for Edge
i cannot see that in general setting
Hi Simon
CAn i go back to 2.0 from 2.1 using quickpwn 2.1…
Pls help i am stuck now my GPRS (Edge) is also not working nor is my Wifi. I can turn Wifi on and off but it cannot locate any network around nor it accepts manually……
i could kiss you right now simon! mwah! thanks alot for this man.
Everything is going smooth. Thanks for your hard work.
Irene, if you have any need to upgrade to firmware 2.1, you can just follow this guide to use QuickPwn for upgrade. As soon as you complete all the above steps, your iPhone should be jailbreak and unlock.
Anthony, are you using Safari to download the firmware file (IPSW)? I suggest you to use Firefox to download it. Safari, by default, will automatically unzip the IPSW file.
Hi Simon,
I did successfully upgrade to 2.1 but still wifi issue not solved….
Does anyone has solution for it….
Has anybody faced same problem… where you can turn your wifi on and off but u cannot see the available networks…
You are a complete GOD….had lots of fears before updating, but your clear guide make it so easy THANK YOU
hi,
I jailbroke last night, but now I have No Service. What should I do to get it back?
thank you
hi simon,
understand that it’ll be jailbeak and unlock… meaning that all my applications before is gone?
Irene, you can backup your iPhone application using iTunes first. And, for applications that you install via Cydia, you may use AptBackup to backup them first.
Many, many thanks, works like a charm
Hi,
I followed all the steps above on Windows Vista and it all went through fine except, i lost all my data! Was this supposed to happen automatically during the upgrade or was I to backup manually?
Please let me know if my data is somewhere on this machine because I have looked everywhere and nothing.
Thanks,
Vicky
Thank You!! It was so easy to do!! Keep up the good hard work that you do!!!
I updated my 1.1.4 to 2.1 and everything works fine except for the Single Most Important feature of an iPHONE, which is, that the dialer does not work at all. Anybody facing the same problem, or has a solution?
Ok just read some article online and apparently, the utility called “Kate” from Installer messes your phone up such that the dialer won’t work. http://www.everythingicafe.com/forum/iphone-modifications/jailbroke-but-now-dialer-doesnt-work-37520.html
Vicky, did you sync the data (e.g. contacts, SMS) back to your desktop via iTunes before upgrade? Normally, you get those data back after upgrade by sync it with iTunes again.
AWESOME!!!! Thank you so much for all your effort. Entire process took around 20 minutes and worked no prob…
Pity about losing ones data, settings and installed apps, but this was expected.
Once again, thank you!!
Hye Simon ,
I exactly did the steps and Viola !
2.1 from 1.1.4
looks good as of now ..
thanks ,
hey people. so i’m getting an error message when i try to launch QuickPwn.exe. Read’s as follows: “The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000135). Click on OK to terminate the application.” I’m going to have to restore my iphone back to version 1.1.4. But any ideas to solve this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
Anthony, I think your Windows is not installed with .NET framework. You can download .NET framework here and try to launch QuickPwn again.
i can apply this procedure to ipod touch 2g?
thanks for the prompt reply simon. it worked perfectly. great job at diagnosing the problem. thanks again!
James, which version of iPod Touch are you using? The jailbreak procedures mentioned in this post should also work for the 1st generation of iPod Touch. But not the latest version.
This is the best ever jailbreak and upgrade ever.
Easy and fast. Thanks for the instructions.
hi! i would like to know y im missing the part where i have to browse the bl-39 and 40. and i dont see the unlock phone option. pls help.
iphone 3g 2.1
Hi again Simon,
thanks for responding to my earlier post… unfortunately, I didn’t backup manually I didn’t know I could do so manually. Something in your instructions made me think it was an automatic process. The good news is my contacts did get backed up automatically with Windows Contact??
Anyway, new problem… Wi-fi works only in the location I did the jailbreak. Can you shed some light on why this is happening? I haven’t been able to connect using any other wireless network.
Thanks again,
Vicky
Bryan, for iPhone 3G, please check out this guide.
hi i jailbroke my 1st gen iphone using ur steps and everything works fine but my “phone” icon wont work now. i cant call out using the keypad now. please help….
Simon,
Does the iPhone need to be activated before unlocking, etc.? I have a new 2G iPhone that I want to unlock so I can use with my existing AT&T SIM, but have not activated the phone. Is this a requirement before unlocking?
Thanks,
Joey
Joey, you do not need to activate the iPhone manually. QuickPwn will do so in the jailbreak and unlock process.
Hi Simon
I have upgrade my 2g iphone from 1.1.1 to 2.1 version using QuickPwn & Pwnage Tool to jailbreak firmware 2.1. It works successfully. But my WIFI icon does not activate and it state “No Wifi” – grey out WIFI. Can you help to solve this problem i m facing.
Hi, the tool worked a treat however that was until I tried to download Fring from the appstore and it told me that my apple store ID was only valid in the UK. Is the firmware above the US version by any chance? Any ideas how I can change the appstore app to look at the UK site – or am I going to have to do it all again with the uk version of the firmware. thanks
your guide is simply the easiest to follow. thanks a lot!!! i thought i broke my phone until your detailed instructions came to the rescue. thanks man.
I would just like to thank you for this article cuz it def. helped me out in a tough battle against this phone that lasted for days lol
Sundip, it’s not related to your firmware. It’s related to your iTunes account. If your iTunes account is registered in US iTunes Store, you’ll be logon to the US one. From what I know, Apple uses your credit card to validate your location during iTunes registration.
Hi Simon, I am from the UK so I would like to see the UK appstore on my iphone but unfortunately I can only see the US version, I know this as all costs for apps are in dollars. Is there a way that I can change which appstore the iphone looks at? thanks
Simon, ignore my previous post, iTunes changed my appstore once I plugged the iphone into iTunes. Many thanks, you’ve been a great help – this has to be the most easiest way to upgrade.
That was painless!
Simon,
I followed the upgrade guide and the phone was upgraded and unlocked. However, I was unable to backup and sync. It is stuck on the pineapple logo. Please help!
hi,
during jailbreak and unlock process it’s advised to:
* hold Home button for 5 seconds.
* then hold Home and Power buttons together for 10 seconds.
* Next, release Power button and continue to hold Home button until your iPhone is in DFU mode.
So does that mean I can release Home button once the phone is in DFU mode?
thanx for input.
Eddie
Hey there thanks in advance…
i m having an issue after step 9 i cant get the “tick mark”, also the blue arrow to go to the next step is grey..
Paul, do you mean you can’t sync with iTunes after upgrade? Try restart iTunes and your iPhone to see if it works or not.
Eddie, correct. You can release the Home button once QuickPwn confirms your iPhone is in DFU mode. That is, when you can see the message “Wait while your iPhone is preparing for jailbreaking…”
Ankur, probably you’re not pointing to the correct IPSW file. Try download the firmware again (Please do not use Safari for download).
Hi,
I’m trying to unlock my iPhone according to the steps given above, but i’m not able to start QuickPwn (error message: application ailed to intialize). Any idea what is wrong?
Thanks in advance,
Magne J
Magne, are you using Windows XP? For XP, you have to install .NET framework in order to launch QuickPwn successfully. You can download .NET framework here.
Simon, I get an error message at 11 seconds remaining while hilding the home key (after 19 of the 30 seconds) saying “Your device has connected in the wrong mode. This can be caused by incorrect following of the instructions or a fauly USB connection. Please try again.” I dont think I am doing anything wrong and am my USB connection seems to be working well. Any ideas?
Andy, are your iPhone connected through docking or just USB cable? From what I tried, it’s better to bypass the docking.
Hi Simon
Need help i have been following your blog to find solution to fix my problems i succesfully upgraded also but my problem still continues… do u think its hardware problem…
Pls help….
I had OTB 1.1.2 and unlocked with ziphone and upgraded t0 1.1.3 for almost 3-4 months working fine suddenly it start freezing and rebooting and would not respond except doing hard boot so i restored and upgraded it to 1.1.4 but the problem continued so i upgraded to 2.1 and unlocked with quickpwn.. but my wifi got screwed it just keeps on seaching network and when my phone is in teh sleep mode and i get a call my phone doesnt ring nor vibrate doesnt come up from the sleep mode but the opposite person can hear a ring…
i have tried to go back to 1.1.4 unlocked it with iliberty also have erased with kiphone also but no luck…
I cannot connect to wifi and edge also as the APN option has also gone so cannot download any software
Anyone if have solution pls help…i cannot go to the apple store also as i am in india and bought it from grey market….
great tutorial!!!
it worked on my first try!!! thanks!!!
by the way, i plan on doing this in my friends iPhone but his contacts are not sync’d with his outlook contacts. will this process delete the contacts and text messages stored in iPhone? if so, how will i prevent this? how will i back up the iPhone contacts so that when i sync it back up when i’m done with this process it will show the same contacts before? thanks in advance!
Hi Simon, i did everything like your guide, but at the end of the process my phone couldn’t make any calls; so i tried again, and this time i look to the iphone screen at the end of it to see if everything was ok, but at the end of the process, although it finish and reboots, there were some error messages (to fast to read unfortunetly) and again couldn’t make any calls (as before, the signal marker is showing me that the phone has no service). So now, i need some help to make my phone do what it suppose to do… Can you help me with this? Thanks.
Fredie, you have to sync the contacts with iTunes before running QuickPwn. After jailbreak, you can sync the iPhone again with iTunes to restore the contact.
If you bypass these steps, you can’t restore back the contacts, SMS, etc.
Thanks a lot. v easy to upgrade my version. Really easy guide.
Droid1980, I suggest you to install BootNeuter via Cydia and run it to unlock your iPhone again. Choose the following settings in Bootneuter:
Bootloader version 3.9/4.6 (use default)
neuter = on
fakeblank = off
unlock = on
Urmil, I suggest you to jailbreak the iPhone again using the procedures mentioned in this post. Sometime, another jailbreak will make your iPhone works again. Leave us comment if you need help.
Extremely efficient and quick process. Thanks!
Question. I have a jailbroken, activated and unlocked 2g iphone with firmware 2.0.2. My Itunes was 7.7.0.43 when I unlocked the phone. I have now upgraded my itunes to 8.1, but I have not yet upgraded the phone to 2.1. My question is Can I still sync my phone with this newer itunes even though I have not upgraded the phone to 2.1 firmware? Or will sync’ing the phone to the new itunes kill the unlock and jailbreak? thanks for being there.
I was really nervous about upgrading my iPhone from 1.1.4, thought I would give it a go and was really surprised how straightforward and easy it was.
Thanks to you for making it possible!! :0)
Guy wire, no problem. You can sync your iPhone 2.0.2 with iTunes 8.0.1. Just make sure you answer “No” or “Cancel” when you’re prompted about firmware upgrade.
Hey Simon,
is it possible to upgrade to this firmware directly from 1.1.4 firmware?
Simon,
apparently my jailbreaking has been an error. I reviewed back what I did was wrong, and found out the BL39 and BL46 file that I downloaded was corrupted half way or something without me noticing this, as they weren’t supposed to be the files I needed. Hence now my phone is bricked.
So what step do you think I should do? Restore the firmware back to 1.1.4 or step down to 2.0.2 with your guide? I’m lost.
Regards,
Jay
Simon, no need to reply my previous post. The phone has been working properly now. What I did was simply re-did the whole thing (updating it back to the same 2.1 firmware). I re-downloaded the bootloader. I suggest that everyone should double check the files download before updating or using the files. Simple problems might cause to bigger ones later on. Thanks Simon for the write up.
Regards,
Jay
whats a docking ?
ok i downloaded qukpwn, both bootloaders and the correct psw…it always stops at downloadin image and it shows an image on the ipod when it reaches to the ramdisk part its says Your device has connected in the wrong mode. This can be caused by incorrect following of the instructions or a fauly USB connection. Please try again. what should i do ?
@Jay, thanks for your sharing.
@Blacdood, docking refers to the dock for holding and charging iPhone. Normally, I didn’t use that for connecting my iPhone and computer during jailbreak. I will connect my iPhone via the USB cable directly. Also did you try other USB ports? Or you are connecting through USB hub?
how do you double-check your files to be sure they downloaded correctly? I am about to do my upgrade’
BL39 and BL46 files are 129KB each. Firmware 2.1 is 236,496KB. I’ll have Simon verify this. To double check whether the BL file you download is the correct one, just download it again and see if it’s the same size.
Hey SIMON!!!
I unlocked my new Iphone using the most recent applications. The phone works with T-Mobile service, but phone keeps telling me to connect to itunes. However, when I try to connect to Itunes, it says “There is no carrier that supports installed SIM card. ” Any solutions to this problem?
thanks
Simon,
I have done all the above,
But now my phone wont connect to itunes saying that sim card is not recognized, Also i can not use the phone only have the emergancy call option has pop up saying “different sim card detected please connect to itunes”
PLs can you help
Thanks
Kris
Jay, thanks for your info. Here are the file sizes:
BL-39.bin – 131073 bytes
BL-46.bin – 131073 bytes
Firmware 2.1 IPSW – 234,702,794 bytes
@Dallas, seems your iPhone is not unlocked nor jailbreak. I suggest you to follow this guide and run through the procedures again.
@Kris, what version of firmware are you originally using? It seems your iPhone is not jailbreak nor unlocked. Any problem when you did step 12-15?
so im seeing alot of ppl with wifi problems, just like mine, and yet i cant find any answers. My wifi button will turn itself off all the time, and even when its on, it doesnt work. I have bossprefs and turn on edge only and that doesnt work. I even turn the edge icon off, and its still there (unrelated?) All i know is my internet doesnt work at home at all, but im pretty sure it does other places. I have 2.1 firmware. And it has worked for a while after i jailbroke it. Nobody seems to reply to this topic.
I followed everything, but when I try to sync to itunes, it keeps saying sim card is not supported in this iphone. Help!!!!! Please!
James, I suggest you to download Bootneuter from Cydia and run it again. Choose the following settings in Bootneuter:
Bootloader version 3.9/4.6 (use default)
neuter = on
fakeblank = off
unlock = on
PERFECT!!!! Thank you so much Simon. Your my hero!!!
Shawn, that’s true. I heard there are quite a number of cases related to Wifi issue. And, they’re not limited to jailbreak iPhone. Even for some iPhone without jailbreak, there are some Wifi connection issues.
For your case, did you try to reset the network settings (under Settings -> General -> Reset)? Also, as you can connect at places other than your home, what happen when you connect to your home network? Did you try to use static IP? coz sometimes iPhone just can’t get the IP address
Hi Simon, I followed all your steps to upgrade my jailbroken & unlocked 1.1.2 (also has a turbo SIM). I am using windows XP. It started resoring, but after some time, a message came on screen saying “unexpected error ocurred:1602″ and now itunes does not detect my phone. The phone has an image of a USB & itunes logo, and nothing else works. Pl help. Thanks
arjay, please refer to Apple’s support website about the 1602 error. As suggested, you have to completely uninstall iTunes and Apple mobile device support. Then reinstall iTunes 8.0.
ok Simon I’ll follow this method and then let u inform. Thanks genious
Hey Simon, Finally got it all to work really appreciate it. I have t-mobile with the data plan but the phone wont log onto the internet. do I need to add something ? wifi works fine no problem. I was going to add the t-zones hack and drop my plan. let me know once again thanks
Hi Simon,
Followed the guide to upgrade from unlocked 1.1.3 to 2.1. Everything went smooth but now i cannot USB connect to iTunes. No synching possible, no way to downgrade to 1.1.3. I use Vista – have uninstalled iTunes and apple mobile device and tried iTunes 8.1 8.0 7.7 7.5, tried 4 different USB cables, with dock, without dock… tried 3 different computers, different OS (XP) – but never managed to USB connect again after the last stage in the quickpwn process. Can ssh via terminal, can charge with difficuly, reinstalled all usb ports in vista – running out of options – why did i upgrade?
thanks a lot simon…
i’ve been using this firmware for a week now and i noticed that it’s not as smooth as 1.1.4. i’ve experienced more hang ups in just a week of using 2.1 compared to around 6 months of using 1.1.4.. now i’m thinking of downgrading to 1.1.4..do you have tutorials on how to do it? thanks in advance…
Works like a charm … Thanks a Lot my friend … however i do have a question. When i put in a new Sim Card the only option that i get is for Emergency number. Is there anything else that i need to do to make my iphone work with a different provider.
@GI, did you check your APN setting?
@MacEric, did you try to hard reset (Hold Power & Home button together till you see the Apple logo) the iPhone?
@ferdie, I do not have the tutorial. But you can Google it. In some sense, I agree with you that 1.1.4 is more stable than 2.1. However, personally, I think iPhone 2.1 is much better than 1.1.4 as it packs with more features & App Store.
@GT, seems your iPhone is not jailbreak as you’re still seeing Emergency number screen. Do you see the home screen with Cydia icon?
The process is spot on! No problems whatsoever even when I didn’t hold down the proper buttons for the proper amount of time. Just went back and did it again.
Thanks!
HI Simon,
Thanx for the support! Yes I have tried hard reset with and without USB connected to the PC. No luck! All apps and wifi and everything works fine but I start to think that there may be some hardware problems… Do you have some more ideas? I have the ability to SSH into phone and can I perhaps erase everything in it to force it to go back to 1.x ? Thanks again for your support!
exe work there son.Just bought 3g iphone in ny and got back home today to australia.I tried the iphone while i was in ny with my mums sim and it worked. As soon as i tried it with my sim it would not reconise it so i restore it with 2.1 of itunes and i thought i fuked it completely because it was going into the ermergency mode only but i could still ring all numbers.Weird.So i went on the hunt and come across this site,What and awsome patch and thankyou very much.In australia you have to pay 750 dollars and go on a 2yr contract which u end up paying about 3k for your iphone(i know what a rip of).Anyway thankyou very much
Thanks a lot… it works perfect…
Hi Simon … i have tried it twice .. everytime i get a msg that the PWN is successful. However when i put in new sim, the exact msg that i get is “Different Sim Detected. please connect to itunes”. when i do connect to itunes, the msg that i get is “the sim card inserted in this phone does not appear to be supported”. However when i do remove the sim, i can get on to the main screen and i do see the cydia icon there … is there anything more that i need to do … the version is: 2.1 (5F136).
GT, seems your iPhone is not unlocked yet. Pull out your SIM and go to Cydia. Download Bootneuter and launch it after installation. Choose the following settings in Bootneuter:
Bootloader version 3.9/4.6 (use default)
neuter = on
fakeblank = off
unlock = on
Flash it to unlock your iPhone.
Need help 3g iphone has stopped getting a signal now to my carrier. But if i put my mums sim back in it works.Does anyone know what is happening with this ,is it because when i tried it in newyork with my mums sim it only remembers that sim now.
And also why does it only go to ermergency setting when u download 2.1 from iphone itself,it has a picture of itunes with a usb cable plugging into it and saying slide for ermergency and scrolling through a heap of languages
Simon

Simon,
Will upgrading next time delete all my previous apps installed via Cydia?
Excellent instructions buddy! unlocked a friend’s Iphone easily..
Please provide some apps to import contacts from simcard.
I have an unlocked iPhone 2G which is on version 1.1.4.
I want to upgrade to the new 2.1 firmware.
I also have many applications installed on the phone which I wish not to lose. If I upgrade, will the applications be lost..?
I am not sure whether the apps have been installled thru iTunes App store or Cydia. What should i do if i want to back them up and upgrade?
Can i restore the apps after the firmware upgrade? If so, please tell me how to do it..
And what about the wifi probalems which many users seem to be facing? Is there a foolproof way to avoid it??
Help me out.
Thanks!!
damn man it worked like a charm. u r fckin awsome. <3 u!!!!
Sherwin,
Yes, you will need to reinstall all Cydia applications after upgrade. If you want to keep them, you may try AptBackup before upgrade.
Sam, iPhone 2.1 already allows you to import SIM contact. Go to Settings -> Contacts -> Import SIM Contacts
Worked great! Got my phone back after trawling through sites finding a way of unblocking the thing.
But i can’t seem to get apps to work, i click on them, and after a few seconds the phone just goes back to main menu. any answers???
cheers mate

I had another question.. I am currently using 1.1.4 with Ziphone unlock on my Iphone. Do you recommend to move to 2.1.. and also do we have different apps through installer like as in case of 1.1.4..
@Sam, absolutely. Firmware 2.1 offers App store that you can download many great application. Also you’ll use Cydia to install jailbreak application.
@Ma7mood, please use firefox to download the firmware file in case u have problem. Also u need to locate your firmware file during iTunes restore.

Simon, I get an error message between 1 and 15 seconds remaining while holding the home key (after 19 or 29 of the 30 seconds) saying “Your device has connected in the wrong mode. This can be caused by incorrect following of the instructions or a fauly USB connection. Please try again.” I have tried connecting to different USB ports on my system but still received the same error. Not sure what is the problem and am my USB connection seems to be working well. Any suggestions/solutions?
Thanks a lot Simon. I followed the steps and it worked perfectly. I appreciate ur hard work. Ur a life saver. I been trying to do this for a long time now because i travel out of the country from time to time. But now that i have it unlocked, i am not worrying bout changing phones all the times. Good job again man. Keep up the good work!!!
Hi Simon .. How do i install Bootneuter in my iphone. i installed the “winscp” software in my PC, but after that i cannot do anything (or should i say dont know what to do) .. can u help me please ????
worked first time, no problems at all
I have iphone 2g, previously upgraded and unlocked/jailbroken using ziphone.
I followed the instructions above and now have a fully upgraded firmware 2.1. everything works fine, wi-fi, you tube, appstore, but my phone does seem a bit laggy (slow to respond to clicks) and safari sometimes closes for no reason and dumps me back to the springboard. the only thing I haven’t tested yet is EDGE, but O2’s edge coverage in the UK is so poor I wont be missing anything even if it doesn’t work.
just be warned that some of the steps take quite a while, maybe up to 20 mins, and you will be left watching the little spinny hourglass thing wondering if it has hung are something… just be patient

Dear Simon
I have an iphone with 2.1 firmware and wanted to unlock it. I tried the steps but I do not get the tick mark on step 9 and the next arrow is disabeled. Once I choose the ipsw file, a prgress indicator shows and that is it. Nothing happens
Great guide, worked like a charm!
Running FW 2.1 (2G)

@Jake, please install .NET framework before launching QuickPwn. You can download .NET framework here.
@GT, you can find Bootneuter in Cydia.
@Phuong, please try to download QuickPwn again.
Hello Simon,
I am getting the below error at step 4. when i try to restore in itunes.
An uknown error occured (1403)
Any ideas?
Also itunes prompts me to update to the FW to 2.1. Is this the same as restoring the downloaded one?
I am on a 2g iphone on 1.1.4
Lost WiFi after updating 2G iphone to version 2.1. I’ve done the restore/downgrade/restore/jailbreak etc. Not only is wifi greyed in settings BUT EVERY network is locked and requires a password to join – including my own.
Suggestions?
Thanks in advance.
Man im so happy to have my iPhone back. I upgraded via iTunes a week ago and got my iPhone locked. Your tutorial really helped me. Hats off to you dude.

and nothing happening … just the iphone screen is showing the itunes logo and connecting cable…

Thanks Simon for all your efforts.
i recently got my new 2G Iphone (as a replacement) with Version 2.1 preloaded. But i still restore it to V2.1 using the above guide and ran QuickPwn without any errors, but my iphone displays message “Different Sim Detected Please connect to itunes”, when i use other ATT sim. But still able to receive calls with a different sim. i also downloaded Bootneuter and choose the following settings but that did not work.
Bootloader version 3.9/4.6 (use default)
neuter = on
fakeblank = off
unlock = on
Please help…
Thanks.
Simon, I did everything and now my phone shows my T-mobile as a carrier but it won’t let me move beyond the “emergency call” screen and it says I have to activate the phone. What do I do next?
Thanks Simon! I have upgraded my iphone from 1.1.4 to 2.1 and it works very well. Previously the 1.1.4 was done by ziphone.
@architect, which step are you stuck at? Also, did you successfully put your iPhone in DFU mode?
@Neil, can you please try the above procedures once more? And make sure you select “Unlock phone” in step 10.
Simon,
i ran the above process couple of times with no error, but my iphone is not going beyond emergency calls. Any workaround…
simon, i am stuck at step 13 of the above mentioned procedures, the quickpwn window is showing that …wait for your iphone to connect in recovery mode…
and i have waited more than 20 min. for each time, but the second step of holding the home button for 5 min, did not flashed,
i even entered the DFU mode correctly…
pls help
Simon,
how long is this supposed to take after it says “Wait while your iPhone is prepared for jailbreaking”? It seems to stop there….. please help.
simon, i am unable to unlock, i followed these process…
step 1..
brought my phone to DFU mode and tried to restore, sometimes phone was recognised as ipod and i had to close down the itunes and then restart…again…
now when i started restoring phone in DFU mode…one pop up window said, an unknown error-1601, could not restore..
step 2…
after phone came out of DFU mode and was showing on screen with usb end of the cable which connects to computer and i tunes logo, now i tried to restore it again with itunes, it got restored and was showing on screen, the tower, time and power with i tunes logo and cable with superimposed insert valid sim dialogue, then i used quickpwn , done everything but again stuck to step 13,
wait for your iphone to connect in recovery mode…
help me…
I’ve followed the steps up to number 8, BUT QuickPwn wont detect my 2g iPhone. The blue arrow is greyed out…….HELP????
The phone has been updated from 1.1.4 to 2.1 using the custom firmware. Phone now shows the emergency call screen and iTunes says that the sim is not compatible. I wish I’d never bothered updating – can anyone help????
Perfect execution……I owe u a lot….thanx for this unlock software
Excellent guide, it was very easy to follow. Does anyone know if you have an unlocked and jailbroken iphone, are you able or allowed to download apps from the app store??
Mason,
Sure. You can use App Store.
Simon please, any ideas on this error when trying to restore 2.1 in iTunes?
An uknown error occured (1403)
Hi Simon, your instructions are really wonderful. I get my iPhone 1.1.4 successfully upgraded to 2.1. But left one problem: there is no way to toggle my English input and Chinese Pinyin. Originally there is a button with globe logo allows me to toggle into Chinese Pinyin, now it is gone.
Is there any patch i can download from appstore for it? Or i have loaded a wrong firmware file? (but so far, the firmware works really fine including nice wifi connection!)
Hi Simon, I get it out already, it hides in the keyboard menu. Anyway, great thanks for your info and effort!
Hey
Thanks for the tutorial. Tried it from FW 1.2 up to 2.1 and, after a fair bit of retrying, mostly caused by using the wrong verison of Quickpwn that I already had, cost me a couple hours of DFU-ing, restoring and updating, but in the end it’s got through the entire process and now its bedtime. I’ll have a good scout around the iPhone tomorrow, hopefully everyhitng works as it should.
Thanks again.
Does the Jailbreak process work with the official unlocked Iphone 3g ?
Hi Simon, am using a 1.1.2 with a turbo SIM, its jailbroken. To update to 2.1 do I have to remove the turboSIM and keep only the service provider SIM card ? It just does not restore. Pl help. Thanks.
Dear Simon,
I used u guide to update my iphone 2.01 to 2.1. My friend ask me to update his phone as well. But his iphone version is 1.1.4. Can I used same complete guide that Complete Guide: Jailbreak & Unlock iPhone for firmware 2.1 using QuickPwn (For Windows)? Can I used my laptop same itune that now I using? B’cos I worry that same of my date will collapse with his iphone.
Kindly answer my above question.
Thanks
@baset, for iPhone 3G Jailbreak, please refer to this post.
@Arjay, you better remove the TurboSIM and just keep the original SIM card.
@Mee Mee Ko, you can use this guide to upgrade iPhone 1.1.4 to 2.1. I think it’s ok to use the same iTunes to upgrade another iPhone.
Hey Simon, I had a question that I have been trying to figured out myself and just cant seem to get it right. I am currently running 2.1 jailbroken through quickpwn and everything works fine except for the fact that when I put a different simcard into the phone it states, Simcard is not recognized… It does not let me go past the emergency lock screen, but I can still recieve calls. I repeated the jailbreak/unlock process 5 times on two seperate iphones (2G) with an ATT simcard everything works fine (Cydia/Installer) but as soon as a tmobile simcard is inserted, the phone reverts back to the lockscreen. Also Bootneuter settings are : 4.6 , Neuter on , Fakeblank Off, and Unlock On,…. Please help…. You can email me at jkatz3466@gmail.com Thanks
Jeff
just wanted to thank you for this detailed tut….worked flawlessly!!!!!!

Worked like a charm
I bought the iphone only a couple of days ago and decided to go for the 2.1 straight away as I haven’t tried any of the applications from 1.1.4 (and thus couldn’t know if they were good or bad). Lets hope it goes well.
Thank You for such a simple and comprehensive tutorial.

I followed exact steps and it said it successfully jailbreak and unlock the phone but when I tried to use another sim card it does not let me use it. Any advice would be helpful. Thanks a bunch
i have followed all the steps to jailbreak my itouch 2.1 and the quick pwn software just hangs there saying ‘ wait while your device is prepared for jailbreaking’ i tried this process for 20+ times it happens everytime.
simon, go a solution for this problem?
Hi Simon,
I having 2G iphone with 2.0 Version and already UNLOCKED,
Is i can able to upgrade my Unlocked iPhone 2.0 to 2.1, Is i get any trouble in that, let me know…. Thanks Simon
Shijin, no problem. You can do it for firmware 2.1. But as firmware 2.1 is mainly for bug fix. If you do not experience any major issues with the 2.0 version, I suggest you wait until firmware 2.2. release and upgrade it directly.
Dave, are you using the old version of iPod Touch or the latest model of iPod Touch? The upgrade procedure will not work for the new model.
Thanks simon. i just had a plesent update. in 20 mins only
Yes Simon, I facing some problem in my iPhone 2.0, So i plan to upgrade to 2.1 version.
Thanks Simon..
If i upgrade to 2.1 now and if the 2.2 firmware has release, is can i able to upgrade to that firmware to my iPhone Simon..
Thanks Simon, have upgrade it successfully..
Thank you so much Simon. you guide was easy and fruitful.
I’m running now 2.1 without ant hassle.
Thank you so much Simon. you guide was easy and fruitful.
I’m running now 2.1 without any hassle.
I finally solved the problem with restoring in iTunes.
If anyone comes across the ‘An uknown error occured (1403)’ in iTunes just re-download the FW2.1 file OR change USB port. I am not sure witch of the two did the trick. Just try it.
My wifi did not work until I restored my last synch in iTunes.
Big thank you to Simon for this Tutorial.
Excellent
Simon please help.
After I used quickpwn to unlock my iphone 2G 2.1, I cannot connect to any wifi and my phone does not ring or vibrate when the screen is turned off. Please help.
This is the second phone that had this problem after I unlocked it with quickpwn. Everything worked fine on 2.0 and 2.0.1. I got a brand new iphone 2G to replace the old one and everything was fine yesterday. Today I upgraded to 2.1 and unlocked with quickpwn, then immediately I could not see wifi connections. My wifi was on, but it only searched for connections. And when people call my phone, they hear it ringing, but my phone does not respond at all while my screen is sleep. If I turn the screen on, it shows I have missed their calls. Is there anyway to fix this? On my last phone, I tried to restore it to no avail, then tried to restore it back down to 2.0.1, but I still get the same problems. I really need help, because I can’t afford to have two iphones gone down the drain.
Please reply.
A massive thank you to you all that has helped developed this.
Succesfully upgraded my unlocked 1.1.2 to 2.1.
Now to start playing
Simon
I successfully upgraded from 1.1.4 to 2.1 without no issue but i have lost all my previous application installed. Also notice that my total storage size drop to 7.1gb from 7.27gb. Which means i’ve lost 170mb in the process. Do you know where did all the lost storage (170mb) gone and is there anyway i can retrieve all my application?
NB; i did sync my iphone with itunes prior to upgrade.
Thanks
@simon
would like to ask u a question…

Jonnie, for iPhone 3G, you can follow this jailbreak guide.
P.S. Presently, only you can only jailbreak iPhone 3g but not unlock it.
hi guys,

Pls fwd comments.

I was able to upgrade mine 2G from 1.1.3 to 2.1 at 1st attempt
Thanks for clear instruction

Please help me Simon.
I’m loosing my mind… I don’t know what to do next…
I’ve tried to run BootNeuter in all ways imaginable.
First i must tell you that i do not know what country its the iphone from nor the Network wich he is/was attached to…
Now I have one doubt: Is ther a way to confirm that the problem is not in the hardware? Because I always have in the left corner the indication of “No Sim”.
Is there any software that confirms me if the phone is actualy seeing my Sim Card and is being able to collect information from it?
Can you explain me something. Is there any possibility that the phone is “waiting” for just one certain Sim Card and rejects all the others saying “No Sim” at al the times?
Best regards…
Eddie, are you using Safari to download the IPSW firmware file? Try to use Firefox instead. Safari will automatically unzip the IPSW firmware file that will affect your jailbreak process.
What about me my friend. Help me here.
About your question: “Are you using TurboSIM to unlock your iPhone previously?”
Response: I don’t know. I had it yesterday and in my hands the phone (register the sim) never worked…
By the way: My modem firmware is 04.05.04_G and the model is MB387F and in the newtwork field i have: (null)(null) and network: not available.
I must say that in BootNeuter now i have: version 4.6, neuter on FakeBlank off and Unlock on
Could have anything to do with that?
Best regards…
Hey Simon
If i upgrade my 3G that its already jailbreak to 2.2 will that undo everything?
Hi Simon,
I’m actually using IE7….just not sure why d/loading IPSW does prompt to save as .zip
thanx.
Dude. Just two words:
Thank You!
You rock.
Your guide on QuickPwn to upgrade 1.1.4 to 2.1 is work perfectly.Thank You very very much.
Simon.
I’ve been waiting all day for your answer. Checked my mail hundreds of times.
I’ve tryed everything that i could but my problem persists.
Please help me as soo as possible. I’m going mad with this.
For those who are seeing my post for the first time:
The problem is that after all this process I’m having always my iphone with a “No Sim” notification instead of the network signal and always having a notification in the center of the screen “No Sim Card Installed”
I think that the phone can access my card because when i call an national information number i get MY OPERATOR saying that i cannot make that call.
Is anyone else with the “No Sim” problem? If you had it and resolved it please help me…
Best regards…
All done, thank you very much
hey simon, so if you uncheck the box to change the logos of the apple when its booting, will that change it to the pineapple?

Hi, I have an IPHONE 3G running 2.1 and using TURBOSIM. I cant install Apps. and need to use IPHONE Store using Itunes account. Now I want to JAILBREAK the phone and keeping the 2.1. What are the steps I need to do. I dont have MAC and only Vsita laptop. How shall I start? Will TURBOSIM will work after the jailbreak or it will be unlocked and no need for Turbosim? Please help…Kindly email me at technogeekchris@yahoo.com
Chris, after jailbreak using QuickPwn, you no longer need TurboSIM. And, before following the above procedures, please remove TurboSIM and just insert your SIM card into iPhone. After jailbreak & unlock process, you’ll get an unlocked iPhone.
dude …any feedback on my question…wat shoud i do….???
Hi Simon, thanks for that reply. I just want to confirm. I need to remove turbosim and just simply put my BAHRAIN SIM CARD (im in bahrain) or the AT&T card? I dont have the AT&T card with me. I nought this from states with turbosim included. It will not locked the phone, if I use the BAHRAIN SIM? Im afraid it will locked it and be unuseable. By the way, are all functionalities will work like 3G etc…? I thought there is no UNLOCKED for Iphone 3G and only Jailbres? Thanks Simon… I will wait for your reply.. thanks…
Oh sorry, SImon, I was so stupid didnt notice this is not for the IPONE 3G. Anyways, if I decide only to jailbreak my IPHONE 3G with turbo sim, waht shall i do? Shall i remove the TURBO SIM first and use my bahrain sim card and then jailbreak. I am currenlty using 2.1 and will use the same. I just want the jailbreak. WILL THE TURBO SIM will work after jailbreak? Please advise. thanks.
Simon, I’ve done that many times (without the chip and with the sim) but the result is the same. Is there any other way of doing the unblock. The jailbreak seems to be fine and when I repeat the process I get the message in the bootneuter that all options are ok and there is no need to change.
I think the phone is reading my card because in my country I have 3 operators (Portugal) but when I try to call an information number I get the response from the operator of my network that I cannot make the call.
It’s really confuse. What can I do next?
Is there a tool to be certain that the iphone is reading my chip to put away the possibility of hardware issue?
Hopping that you answer soon…
By the way, I forgot to tell you that when I go to the information screen I do not have an ICCID and the network shows me: (null)(null)
Best regards…

Hi Simon,
Great work!!! the jail break worked fine on my iphone. Everything is working fine except EDGE. I was able to get the WIFI working, however, I could not find EDGE menu in the Settings->General->Network area. As instructed in one of the above posting, I have reinstalled 2.1 firmware but still could not find EDGE menu.
It would be grateful if you can you help me understand what seems to be the problem.
Nitin
Thanks a million simon. That worked Great for me. i updated my firmware from 1.1.2 to 2.1 in almost an instant and unlocked it too. I reside in Pakistan and it detects my carriers as well.
P.S can you tell me some sources where i could install cool games in my iphone?
Hi All,
To all those who are facing problems in locating EDGE menu item, please follow steps at following link, it did restored the menu item as Cellular Data Network. All you will need is iPhoneBrowser (No need for OpenSSH), just browse to the location mentioned in the link (note that you will need to select your carrier name as folder, for e.g, in India it is Airtel), take backup of file for safetly, download carrier.plist file, modify using plist editor (find it on net for ur OS) and replace this edited file. Your EDGE menu item will be back!!!

Hey Simmon, have you quitted on me?
Best regards…
I’m a virgin when it comes to jailbreaking and unlocking an iphone. I followed your instructions and they were easy to follow and 2.1 is working great! The only problem I had was, being a new iphone user, I didn’t realize that itunes doesn’t automatically back up all my stuff. I lost pictures, video files and some apps. I suppose there are controls to do this in iTunes, but they were not obvious to me as a 1st time user.
Hi Simon!
My iphone was ziphone unlocked/jailbroken at 1.1.4. I heard lots of reviews of it being a bad method to unlock the iphone and that it can damage the iphone forever. I therefore decided to use the winpwn method you suggested here and upgraded my ziphoned iphone classic to 2.1. It took a while, i did bite my nails now and then…but eventually it worked. To my horror, the wifi was greyed out as some people mentioned. My instinct told me to reboot the phone. I did and my wifi came back on. Just to test that it wasnt luck, i rebooted a couple of times and my wifi was still ok. To all the people who have a ziphoned phone, its a ticking time bomb for your iphone. I suspect that ziphone is the reason for this wifi problem in the first place for many people. I notice that 2.1 is a little slower compared to 1.1.4. So Simon, do you think the wifi will develop any problems later? Whats your opinion?
I installed quickpwn and followed the steps and for the third step, my iTunes asking me to activate my iphone. So, I was stuck here and I can not able to restore my iphone.
When I launched the quickpwn tool and it is asked me to connect the iphone and after connecting and pressed the right arrow button and I got a message saying “This version of QuickPwn can only jailbreak devices with versions >=2.0″
I am using quick pwn 2.1 and al the necessary files. iTunes I am using 8.01
Please help me out what I need to do here !!!
Hi Simon,
My unlocked and jail-broken iphone recently froze which led me to hard re-boot and I ended up getting the “connect to iTunes” message. Luckily I found your blog! I just upgraded my 1.1.4 firmware to 2.1, jailbroke, unlocked and have had no problems since! Thank you very much for the easy-to-follow steps and screen shots, as they were much needed for a novice like myself! Cheers Bro!
Hi Simon,
Thanks a ton. I have upgraded my iPhone to 2.1. Initially there was a problem with QuickPwn giving an error. But installed .net frame work and completed the process.

if i upgrade it to 2.1,will it remained unlocked??
Plz reply ASAP..
Ken, you need to jailbreak and unlock the iPhone again if you upgrade from 2.01 to 2.1. You can just follow this guide from step 1. This is just what I did when upgrading my iPhone from 2.0 to 2.1.
Thanks a lot!!!
Hey Simon is it ok to upgrade to the new 2.2 will this affect my phone. I am currently running 2.1.

Hi Simon,
I started off trying to jailbreak my phone using winpwn.
It kinda worked cause the boot logo changed so its not the apple logo (well I changed the boot logo in the settings).
But then an error popped up. Error 6.
I decided to forgo that and gave this quickpwn a try.
Directly upgrading from 1.1.4 to 1.2.1
However, error 5 comes out instead. >_<
May I ask what can I do to rectify?
So now my iphone has become a worthless paperweight….=(
Hi Simon,
I’m trying to jailbreak my iPhone 3g and I found your website so I was hoping you could help me with a problem.
I’m using QuickPwn 2.2 and am trying to jailbreak the 2.2 version of the iPhone 3G. I’m using the how-to on youtube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sdwh6HBjBUM). The problem is when I get to the step where I need to hold down the home button and then power button; at the last step of that screen I get the error: ”Your device has connected in the wrong way. This can be caused by incorrect following of the instructions, or a faulty USB connection. Please try again.”
I’m directly connected with a USB cable and am using windows xp pro. i also have windows updated to sp3.
Thanks so much for taking your time to help me.

For my case was I had my iphone auto-lock set to 1 minute, and this seems to be the cause for the error. Hi! I’m getting very frustrated after trying to jailbreak my iphone 3g (version 2.2 firmware) at least 10 times! I got to the point where I had to hold the home button down for 5 seconds, then hold the home/power button down for 10, and then hold the home for 30 seconds. After doing that last step, Quickpwn goes to the “wait while your phone is prepared for jailbreaking” and it gets stuck there. I’ve left it for 20 minutes and it just does nothing! It also doesn’t let me hold the home button down for the whole 30 seconds before going to that step (where it gets stuck). Any help would be appreciated, this is driving me crazy!
Thank you!

@jake, can you try to download the firmware (IPSW) file again? I suggest you use firefox to download the file if you’re using Safari.
@alaa, that’s really strange. Your iPhone can work for only a day or two. Did you try to uninstall and reinstall iTunes? I suggest you to do so and perform the jailbreak on firmware 2.2 again.
@jenny, did you try to uninstall iTunes and do the jailbreak again? Sorry, I can’t think of any solution based on your problem description. But, do you or any of your friends own a Mac? You may try out this jailbreak guide on Mac. PwnageTool may work for your iPhone.
@Shijin, I got the same problem when I helped my wife to jailbreak her iPhone. Two possible solutions:
1. In iTunes, go to Preference -> Devices -> Delete all backup. Then re-sync your iPhone again.
2. If it doesn’t work, try to complete uninstall and re-install of iTunes.
i did everything simon even now i downgraded iphone firmware and uninstall itunes 8 and installed 7.5 and now im using firmware 1.1.1 the phone was completely unlocked by ziphone and guess what!!!worked for 1 hour then again same error connect to itunes!!!i do what!!!even the base band i downgraded it by patched ziphone!and i used ibricker too and i used the cmd in ibricekr to avoid connect to error too!!!and i tryed firmware 1.0.2 and 1.1.1 and 1.0.4:(((((((( and working 4 little time and again itunes error!!!help me plz!!i knew everything about iphone

simon, what firmware version i need to download using firefox (i’s still using IE to download the firmware). as im saying whenever i launced the quickpwn and proceed with instruction #9 it was asking different version of firmware different from the one i dowloaded previously from the bundle. I will try it again and if all fails for the next try what do you recommend to have my iphone works again. I can still use and receive calls from my iphone using emergency call features but the rest of the program is unaccessible. Is it okay to downgrade it back to the old version, if so which itunes version i need to used and firmware version. thanks so much.
jake

Hi Simon!
I need your help! First off, I have a Mac, so I’m not sure if the above steps would work for a Mac.
I have an old 1st gen iPhone using Version 1.0.2 that’s been jailbroken or unlocked (honestly don’t know the difference) so that I can use it in Canada with any network. When I connect my iPhone to iTunes, I guess because its running Version 1.0.2, I don’t have an applications tab. I would like to upgrade it to Version 2.2 (the latest version) but I’m not sure how. I am currently on the latest iTunes 8.something (the latest update for iTunes), so can I still QuickPwn it of Pwnage Tool it? What’s the diff between QuickPwn and Pwnage Tool?
You seem to know this issue very well, so I hope you can help. Thanks a bunch! Much appreciated!
Melody,
For Mac, I suggest you to use PwnageTool and you can follow this guide for jailbreak. You can directly upgrade the iPhone from 1.0.2 to 2.2.
Hey Simon,
So yes I think it worked…BUT I still can’t sync my apps, it says that I’m not authorized to do so. Also, I’ve lost my WIFI and Bluetooth capabilities…any idea how I can fix that?
P.S. Your blog is the best! Thanks!

Question: How do you unlock the SIM without rejailbreak?

I am new to iphone .. I bought a refurbished iPhone, trying to follow the procedure described here. But I never get to the first screen in iphone that shows me a “restore” button (The picture shown after these words above: Installing iPhone Firmware 2.1 via iTunes
3. Next, connect your iPhone to your computer via USB cable and launch iTunes. Select your iPhone in iTunes.). I am presented with a screen that prompts me to activate my iphone with at&t. When I cancel out of it, I get ” your activation has been cancelled” and that point I can only eject out my iphone. Any help will be appreciated!
Hi to all. I recently Jailbraked my iphone 3g, all this worked 1st time around, however I can now only use my phones internet connected to wifi only, this seems strange to me as I just bought the phone on pay as you go with 12 months free from the apple store. The message im getting is as follows ( could not activate cellular data network: you are not subscribed to a cellular data service ) If im doing something wrong please reply with help, many thanks!
I have a 3G iPhone already jailbroken and unlocked but it was synced to the person who i bought it off it off of’s computer now I can’t sync it to mine or delete the the old stuff what is the best bet restore or reset contents and settings and will that undo the unlock and jailbreak and firmware
Thanks a bunch – Brandy
hi, i restored the iphone to 2.1 from 1.1.4 and the quickpwn wont start please help.
Hello Simon,
I followed what you said. However, I just stoped at “Browse for firmware” screen. After I clicked the firmware, I could see the circle spinning for a while then it stops at this screen forever. What is the possible reason?
My firwmare downloaded is iPhone1,1_2.2.1_5H11_Restore.ipsw. Does this one work?
I have already put all the firmware, QuickPwn executable, and two bootloaders in the same directory, which is suggested by other people in other discussion groups.
hi simon
i have unlocked my iphone from 1.1.2 to 2.1 successfully. now how can i edit or make EDGE settings? i have no wi-fi. please help.
Hello all,
Regarding to my problem posted on Feb 2, I already fixed it by using QuickPwn version 2.2. Thank you.
Winnie Lo.
Can someone tell me how long i got to wait for steps 9
@William, it shouldn’t be long. Once you select the IPSW file, QuickPwn will process and tell you whether it’s successful or not. If it doesn’t work for you, probably the IPSW firmware file is corrupted. You may need to download the file again.
wow, thank you so much for this guide Simon
first time i’ve jailbroken an iphone, and with such clear and detailed instructions you made it much simpler
cheers from australia.
THE FILE iphone1.1_2.1_5F136_restore.ipsw is not present in the download [http://appldnld.apple.com.edgesuite.net/content.info.apple.com/iPhone/061-]
and why execute quickpwn application file is present an “the application failed to initiialize properly”
please help
Hi Simon – i was able to download .net and the quickpwn is working now.
But again i already succesfully downloaded the firmware patch 2.1 but when i hit the restore button in itunes [with shit key], i cant locate the file *ipsw.
i was able to unzip the “iPhone1,1_2.1_5F136_Restore” to a file directory but seems i cant see the file itunes is looking for.
please advise

Hello, I restore my iPhone and then I use QuickPwn and all the procedure but When I browse the firmware it won’t move and it’s not working.
What should I do please help
I want to unlock my iPhone because when I upgrade it, it suddenly locked
Thanks,
Kim.
@Kimberly, I suggest you to follow the latest jailbreak guide to unlock the iPhone. You can check out the guide here.
solution to the “..connected in the wrong mode” error:
Use the latest quickpwn (i used 2.2.5)
change the USB port (use one in the back of the computer).
use a different computer (a laptop worked for me)
it’s all about the timing of holding/releasing the home+power buttons, so don’t give up. i tried at least 15 times, with 2 computers and various cables and ports.
Hi Simon,
Thanks for all your help! Works like a charm!
Cheers from Oz

Dear Simon,
I have successfully done the jailbreak.
Any idea why when I tried to download new applications, I keep having the messsage “Applications could not be verified”
Thanks
Hi,
I used QuickPwn-225-2 successfully with 8.2.03 with Firmware – iPhone1,1_2.1_5F136_Restore to upgrade from 1.1.4. Now everything runs perfectly on my iPhone. While Unlocking my iPhone was hanging on “Wait for your phone to connect in recovery mode” then I started Terminal, telnet and messenger services, Microsoft .NET Framework was already in my system and it worked fine for me. Starting in DFU mode can be tricky as timing is important.
Thanks it helped for me.
Will this also apply to the Apple iTouch or just for the iPhone?
I just download iPhone firmware 2.1. when i unzip the folder it’s give me lot’s of other file. It didn’t give cube, I am Using Window Vista. Plaese Help me

Happy New Year to you too!
Hi Simon,
I have upgraded to version 3 in my 2G iPhone. Unlocked and jailbroken with QuickPwn. It was working fine. I used “erase all content and settings” and since then the apple logo with a round progress bar comes on my iphone. I want to restore it using the ‘iPhone1,1_2.1_5F136_Restore” restore file available on my desktop but iTunes is not detecting my iPhone. In DFU or recovery mode iTunes gives prompt that ‘server could not be contacted’ How to restore iPhone by detecting it in iTunes 8.2.03 by using the recovery file available on my Desktop.
Please hlp…….
