Facebook has just released v2.0 of its iPhone application on AppStore (Download it here). Feedback from the first version of Facebook iPhone application is not very positive. If you have ever tried out the first version, you should know it missed so many features that are provided on regular facebook (i.e. web-based version). The update of Facebook 2.0 is very promising. It’s a huge step ahead of previous version and rolls out quite a number of significant features that are available on web-based version, making this application is a must-have application on iPhone. In brief, new features come with v2.0 include:
- Notifications
- Full News Feed
- News Feed story comments
- People Search
- Friend Requests
- Photo tagging & captioning
- Photo posts to your friends’ Walls
- Full mini-feed, now combined with The Wall
- Full access to your entire inbox, sent folder and updates tab
- Inbox Search & Message Attachment
- Improved performance and stability
First impression – Full news feed, Notification & friend requests
As you launch the new version of Facebook, the first thing impressed me is the user interface. It’s impressive and looks like regular facebook. You can now access the full news feed. What’s more is, you can view and add comments directly by just tapping on the bubble (in green) next to the message. It’ll zoom out an editable for you to add comment.
The user experience is really great. Under news feed, you’ll find a scrollable menu bar that lets you select different type of news feed.
Previously, two crucial features that were left out are notification and friend request. Now, you can find them in the new version of Facebook iPhone application. Really cool and make this application more useful!
Photo captioning & tagging
Photo tagging is probably another demanding feature. And now, it’s well-integrated with iPhone. To tag a photo, you have to use two fingers. Keep one finger pressed down on the photo and then touch anywhere of the photo with another finger. You can also add caption to a photo (One finger is enough) and easy upload to Facebook.

Full access to Inbox & People Search
Full access to your Inbox, sent and update folder is now available. And people search is also integrated in iPhone version of Facebook.

I’m not a big fan of facebook. But Facebook 2.0 on iPhone exceeds all my expectation and brings nearly all powerful feature on web-version of Facebook. Highly recommened you install or upgrade to Facebook 2.0.
As always, feel free to share me and other readers about your experience on this new application.
To enjoy Facebook on your iPhone, you have to use firmware 2.0 or up. If you haven’t upgraded your iPhone to 2.0, you can further check out this post.

I’m a little disappointed that you can Geo tag photos that you upload. On other iPhone blog apps (Livejournal, for example) you can – which is a nice bonus. Hope to see this feature in an upcoming release!
