iPhone firmware 2.1 to release on Fri… Fix more bugs

by Simon Ng on September 11, 2008

“It’s a big update”, Steve Jobs announced during the “Let’s Rock” event. Aside from announcing a revamped version of iPod Nano and iPod Touch, Steve announced the release schedule for iPhone firmware 2.1, which is target on Sep 12 (fri). It’s expected to fix lots of bugs. After the release of iPhone 3G and firmware 2.0, common problems that iPhone firmware 2.0 users encounter are:

  • Drop call (esp. for iPhone 3G)
  • Slow synchronization with iTunes, esp., when you have lots of applications installed on iPhone
  • Application crashes when you have lots of apps. Whether you’re using the default iPhone applications (e.g. Safari) or 3rd party applications from AppStore, you probably are experiencing some kind of crashes. For me, the most common problem is the crash of Safari. It, intermittently quits and sends me back to Home Screen when browsing web pages.
  • Shorter than expected battery life
  • Slow performance for some applications. Do you experience a lag when launching SMS or Contact?

No details about any new feature come with firmware 2.1. But it’s expected the above problems will be fixed in the new version. iPhone user, if you gonna to upgrade and jailbreak your iPhone to 2.0.x, you probably want to wait a little bit longer and upgrade to 2.1 directly.

Any other issue you experience on firmware 2.0 that you expect Apple fix in the new version? Leave us comment and share your idea with other readers.
