Apple has announced iTunes 8.0 that comes with a flagship feature called “Genius“. The breakthrough Genius feature lets you build great playlist. When you play a song in iTunes, click the new “Genius” button. iTunes will automatically create a playlist of other songs that go great together. One step further, as you select songs in your library, iTunes will recommend songs that go great with it from iTunes Store. Other less significant features introduced in this version include a new visual interface known as Grid View, that shows your album or video cover in grid form, enhanced accessibility and a new visualizer.

Concerns from Jailbreak iPhone User
As a jailbreak iPhone user, you probably have a couple of concerns on upgrading to iTunes 8.0.
Can I sync with my jailbreak iPhone with firmware 2.0
No problem. I have installed iTunes 8.0 and gave it a shot. I have no problem to sync data between iPhone and iTunes 8.0. And it’s found that the slow sync problem still exists. Probably, we need to wait for firmware 2.1 to fix the problem.
All the upgrade procedures for firmware 2.0 require iTunes 7.7. Where can I download iTune 7.7?
The upgrade procedures for iPhone firmware 2.0 are all based on iTunes 7.7. As Apple released iTunes 8.0, the download of iTunes 7.7 is no longer available if you go straight to iTunes’ download page. Don’t worry, you can still download iTunes 7.7 using the below URL. If you gonna to jailbreak/upgrade iPhone from lower version of firmware to 2.0.x, I suggest you to stick with iTunes 7.7, which is well-tested.

Miguel, you can sync your contacts/SMS with iTunes before upgrade. Afterwards, you can sync them back.
