One great enhancement for firmware 2.0 for Chinese user, that you may know, is iPhone finally supports Chinese input. You can now write Chinese directly on the multi-touch screen using your finger. That looks pretty great. But if you already try this new feature on iPhone, you may feel it’s not very convenient to *handwrite* Chinese character on a small writing pad. And, you just can’t write too fast.
I’m a long-time user of ChangJie, which is one kind of Chinese Input Method. When my jailbreaked iPhone was still at 1.1.4, I used to install NativeCN and type Chinese on iPhone using ChangJie. No matter the performance or ease of use, that application works really great for me. However, same as some of the third-party applications, NativeCN does not work on iPhone 2.0. After upgrading my iPhone to 2.0, I am always in search of applications that let me input Chinese via ChangJie.
iCosta from freecoder.org makes it happen. It offers a number of Chinese input method to compliment iPhone’s handwriting input and supports firmware up to 2.0.2. Of course, my favourite ChangJie is included.
Now I can type Chinese using standard iPhone keyboard. You may notice that the keyboard shown in the figure is still in English character instead of Chinese one. Yes, it’s one of the downside. Though it looks pretty strange, it’s still acceptable for me as I no longer need to *draw* Chinese character on iPhone.
Installing iCosta
iCosta is available through Cydia. But you need to add the following source in Cydia (tap Manage -> Add) before you can download iCosta:
http://iphone.freecoder.org/apt/

After that, refresh the package and you can find iCosta in “Localization” section.

Update: Beside iCosta, you can also consider using iAcces to install more Chinese input method on iPhone. You can refer the post titled “iAcces offers more Chinese Input Method than iCost” if you’re interested.
