Use WinterBoard to skin your iPhone 2.0

by Simon Ng on August 16, 2008

Bored with the background and standard icons on your iPhone, if your iPhone is a jailbreak one, you got the privilege to use WinterBoard and give your iPhone a completely new skin. WinterBoard on iPhone 2.0 (like its predecessor Summerboard for iPhone 1.1.4) is an iPhone theme manager that allows you to change any WinterBoard/SummerBoard theme on iPhone. Take a look how Winterboard can skin your iPhone :-)

How about changing your iPhone to Vending Machine?

Or use Wood?

How about Vista’s look & feel?

Like the new look & feel of iPhone? To use WinterBoard is easy,

1. First, you can install Winterboard through Cydia.

2. Next, in Cydia, select and install any WinterBoard/SummerBoard theme you like

Cydia - Select WinterBoard Theme

3. Go back to Home screen and launch WinterBoard. Tap on the skin you just install and click the Home button

WinterBoard

4. Okay, wait for a few second and let WinterBoard load the skin for you. You’ll then bring back to the locked screen. Unlock it and you’ll see a fresh new look of your iPhone.

Switching back to the original iPhone Look & Feel

Some time, you may want to back to basic and use the original iPhone theme. There is no direct button that let you do so. You need to download a “default” WinterBoard theme. And then, go back to WinterBoard and install the theme.

Daniel, you can download themes via Cydia. Try add the following source in Cydia if you don’t have. Both sources offers a great collection of iPhone themes.

iSpazio

BigBoss & Planet-iPhones

ok a noob question. if you JB your iphone & say something goes wrong with (hardware wise) & u need 2 return the phone, is there any way to “un-jailbreak’ it so your warranty will not be voided ?

@Bill, you can just restore the original firmware to unjailbreak the iPhone.

Am I right in thinking that many of the applications that one has on a 3G 2.2.1 iPhone will not be acceptable when upgrading to 3.0 and 3.0.1? Is there a list of some sorts for both the Apple Store and Cydia the possibles/impossibles?. Could be useful. I’ve got a feeling that firmware is going to change fairly rapidly in future but will the Apps be able to keep up?. It’s irritating to be using a certain application successfully only to find that it becomes obsolete on upgrading!! Be interested in other views on this points.

How do I jail break? Can I do it myself? I heard there’s a chance that all my phones memory could be list with jailbreaking it!
