Upgrade unlocked iPhone from 1.1.4 to 2.0.1

by Simon Ng on August 13, 2008

As you may already know, Apple has quietly released a bug-fix version of firmware – v2.0.1. I have received a number of queries how we can upgrade and unlock this new version of firmware.

For Windows user, WinPwn v2.0.0.4 was released earlier to tackle Apple’s new firmware 2.0.1 (also, it should work with firmware 1.4 & 2.0). You can follow the procedures in “Upgrade & unlock iPhone from 1.1.4 to 2.0 using WinPwn” but using WinPwn 2.0.0.4. Just note that if you have installed WinPwn 2.0.0.3 earlier, please uninstall it before installing the new version.

For Mac user, please download Pwnage Tool v2.0.2 from iPhone Dev Team and follow the procedures in the post “Upgrade iPhone to 2.0 using Pwnage Tool“.

Update: You can now upgrade and jailbreak iPhone firmware 2.1. Check out the complete guide here and upgrade your iPhone to the latest firmware version.

Hey, if I installed 2.0 from 1.1.4 already, can I still update from 2.0 to 2.0.1?

Andrew, you can upgrade to 2.0.1 using Winpwn 2.0.0.4 or Pwnage Tool 2.0.2. But if you do not want to take risk, I think you can skip 2.0.1 upgrade and wait for firmware 2.1. Firmware 2.0.1 is just a bug fix release.

I currently have unlocked Tmobile 2.0.1 and want to upgrade to the newest version. Is there a way to get the 2.2 safely without locking my phone? What is the newest version that I can safely upgrade to?

I’m trying to update my iPhone and have successfully got to 2.0 – but am now trying to take it higher. This is where I am getting big issues. I have tried to get to 2.0.1 but when I actually download the 2.0.1 unlock (IPSW) restore file, the actual IPSW file isn’t there. My friend has done his a while back and went from 2.0 to 2.2 without any hassle, so I tried that with the correct files (and the IPSW file was there!) but iTunes gives me the error code of 1403? Any help, or a good link to the 2.0.1 with the IPSW file actually in it as the link on this site (for me) does not have the IPSW file (Rapidshare one)!!!

@Peter, I suggest you to follow the updated jailbreak guide and upgrade to firmware 2.2 directly.

Hi Simon, I’m on another computer now and have tried the suggested. Still getting error 1403! This PC has iTunes 8.0.2. I’ve tried going to 2.2 and 2.2.1 but still same error. The IPSW files are there for both, just the iTunes error. Must be something on the phone (16gig first gen) causing the conflict as this is a different PC in a different place! ahhhhh
