Many of you (of course, I’m talking about iPhone owner) may have already installed weDict as your personal dictionary. You may have tried to click the “Pronounce” button and hope to hear a crytal-clear pronounciation. No matter how hard you click on the button, it just don’t speak up. To make weDict speak, you have to download some files and load it onto weDict. I can’t find an easy way to install it directly via Installer. You have to know SSH to remote control your iPhone and copy the files directly to it. I’m trying to make the procedures as comprehensive as I can. And feel free to drop me comment if you find any difficulties.

Note the procedure is for iPhone firmware 1.1.4 and weDict 0.9 or above.

1. Download WyabdcRealPeopleTTS.tar.bz2

2. Uncompress it and you’ll find the folder “WyabdcRealPeopleTTS” on your PC

3. Before you SSH to your phone, I suggest to switch “Auto-Lock” to “Never”. (Settings -> General -> Auto-Lock)

4. Connect to iPhone via Cyberduck (for Mac) or WinSCP (for Windows). If you are using iPhone 1.1.4, you can logon your phone with “root” and password “alpine”.

5. Copy “WyabdcRealPeopleTTS” folder to /var/mobile/Library/weDict. Be patient, the file size is large, so it takes time to copy.

That’s it. When you launch weDict again and try out the pronounce feature, it should work!
