Apple’s Leopard – The next-generation Mac OS X

by Simon Ng on June 13, 2007

Steve Jobs talked about Leopard, the successor of Mac OS X Tiger, at WWDC yesterday. Though I couldn’t attend the conference (I hope so, who can sponsor me an air ticket? :-) ), I watched his keynote via apple.com. What I can say, it’s really a great OS that is definitely designed for user and really makes me stay away from Vista (Probably I’ll buy a new MacBook for it).

Jobs unveiled 10 new features in his keynote speech. I’m not gonna to reiterate it here. I just want to highlight three features I like most and share with you.

1. Redesigned Desktop

Just take a look…

Leopard Desktop - Stack

What a eye-candy OS! It completely blows Vista away. And more significantly, Leopard tries to help you re-organize your desktop, making it less cluttered, with the introduction of Stacks. Stacks provides a quick and organized way to access your desktop folders and group of documents. Leopard allows you to create your own Stacks by just dragging any items to the Dock. To access those items in Stacks, click on the Stacks icon and your files will fan out (just see the above image) or appear in grid form. Cool. Still can’t get the idea? here is the YouTube way…

2. A iTune-like Finder

Finder now works like iTune. It introduces a new sidebar that shows your Mac or other shared Mac. More significantly, it implements Cover Flow, which is a brand-new feature in iTune 7.0, that lets you flip through your files with large preview of its first page.

3. Time Machine

Time machine helps you backup everything on your Mac, whether it’s photo, document or application files. One thing that differentiates Time Machine from other commercial backup software is it remembers how your system looks on a given day. And you can go back, revisit your system state or even bring back your system in the past. Apple has always amazed me with its slick user interface. Time Machine lets you browse your system in a 3D-like space, and you can see exactly what your system looks like on a specific date.

In most cases a product’s rating went down, expanding the range between highest and lowest rated.Unlike Kaspersky, Symantec provides Norton users with little explanation of its features or settings, either in the configuration settings or on its technical support section. Also we don’t like Norton’s dependency on Internet Explorer to explain Help items or services provided by Symantec (windows pop up in IE even when Firefox is your default browser), or that fee-based services have once again crept into the technical support section. Having improved a lot
last year in Symantec’s flagship antivirus product, it makes sense we’d see more modest enhancements for this year’s Norton AntiVirus 2008. While Norton
AntiVirus.

Never underestimate the power of the internet. An increasing number of people use the internet
to search for a business or service so having a web presence is an important media for promoting
your company. Web design is a real skill and if your website is to not only look good but work well,
it should be constructed by a professional web designer.

What are your favourite (lyrical) themes in music?
Are there any you don’t like?
I generally dislike love-songs.. or these girl power-thingies you see on MTV (but I guess that’s normal for a guy).
Of the music I actually listen to I’m not particular fond of the workers ethics in classic rock songs.. you know, about the booze and the relationships that don’t really go your way
I also dislike the superficial ‘love for everything’-mumbo jumbo in new age music, it’s so cheesy..
And the gore and porno-themes in some heavy metal.
Politics are also a real turn-off for me. Either I disagree with the views (and thus feel annoyed) or because it’s too down to earth (I prefer fantasy).
My favourite themes are culture & history, mysticism and the occult, fantasy, war, nature, solitude and anger/hatred. Quite the bombastic stuff.

I saw that Casey Fronczek is offering fishing trips now down in south Florida. Does anybody have any input on these trips or has anyone been on one of these trips before?

Hello everyone!

I’m really liking the helpfulness of this wonderful community here and I was hoping that you could provide some feedback for me.
I created a website that aims to enable students to collaborate their notes with each other and hopefully this would enhance their learning and help them become better doctors, pharmacists, engineers and etc.
Right now, the site is done the beta, but I still feel that it can be improved upon. So, I was wondering if you could provide suggestions and constructive feedback on how to improve the site. I feel that this would really help students succeed.

The site is here: Share notes

Thanks again everyone
